"The Voice" star Cee Lo Green was charged today with one felony count of furnishing a controlled substance, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Green, whose real name is Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, "allegedly slipped ecstacy to a 33-year-old female while the two were dining at a downtown Los Angeles restaurant sometime between July 13 and July 14, 2012," the DA's office said in a statement.
Green, 39, and the woman later went back to her hotel, the statement added, but prosecutors declined to file a charge of rape, "citing insufficient evidence." The woman had previously accused Green of spiking her drink.
In documents obtained by KABC, the 34-year-old victim is referred to as "Anna M."
Green pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Before this news, Green had been in good spirits. In an interview with ABC News Radio, he said he was flattered that so many fans were rooting for the singer to win this season on "The Voice," a reality singing competition where Green is a celebrity coach and mentor to young talent.
"So many people are rooting for me to win. I hear it from everybody, 'It's your year!'" he said. "You know, even the guy at the gas station, I'm like, 'Give me 50 on two,' and he's like, 'Here ya go, also it's your year!' So many people are married to this show, so it's great."
If convicted, Green faces up to four years in prison. He is due back in court on Nov. 20.
Green's manager could not be reached for comment.
