Mariah Names Jermaine Dupri As New Manager

October 7, 2013

Mariah Carey has named her frequent collaborator and producer, Jermaine Durpi, as her new manager.

"A multi-talented artist of Mariah's caliber should be doing everything imaginable," says Dupri in a statement. "I'm sure others have said this but not the way I intend to do it. For me, it's about the execution."

Carey comments, "We have a bond that surpasses music. I am super excited about our merger because we have so many innovative ideas that I know will come to fruition." Mariah's rep, Cindi Berger, who was in the studio with her recently, adds, "I've never seen Mariah so passionate about what she will be revealing to her fans very, very soon."

Dupri is responsible for some of Mariah's biggest hit songs, including "We Belong Together" and "Always Be My Baby."

The news comes a month after Mi Mi tweeted an image of JD and other noted producers in the studio working on her oft-delayed album, The Art of Letting Go.

The man can't (or couldn't?) even manage his money, what will he do with Mariah? She's like 44 and I don't know how good this will do. We shall see though.

Whose career has he successfully steered in the past over a lengthy period? No one comes to mind.

I wonder why he was never that passionate about Janet's music career(only in the sheets) Like he is Mariah's!? Always wondered that..

Da Brat never had a lengthy successful career working with JD, neither did Kris Kross or X Scape or any act that were on So So Def.

You must not be that familiar with the 20 Y.O era that had JD's catty little hands all over that project. He practically pushed Jam & Lewis out of the way with that project. In fact, I think he was TOO involved in Janet's career. His judgment was always way off when it came to her. He's had better success with his friend Mariah but we'll see how this goes.

-

But no, JD never lacked passion when it came to her projects, he just lacked judgment. Maybe he was too close (if you know what I mean).

I know all about his work with Janet! My point was he didn't give Janet his best work like he did Mariah. 20 Y.O. was the worse album I ever heard by Janet! I was very disappointed with it(except for maybe 2 cuts off of it).

I see your point but passion doesn't equal best work. He was passionate about 20 Y.O., it just wasn't his best work lol Oddly enough, "Enjoy" and "Take Care" had no signs of Mr. Dupri hands on those tracks cool

To what degree do we hold Janet responsible for her own "bad" music?

NONE! Jermaine was her lover. So she trusted him! As you can see she has moved on now. You can't help who you fall in love with. She was dickmatized! biggrin

Although JD was quite influential in her life, she's ultimately responsible for her own career. Good, Bad or Ugly.

I wouldn't blame JD fully for what happened with Damita Jo either. That was her own making. This thread is about what Dupri plans to do for MARIAH.

Under the guidance of her ex-husband, I thought she had her career highs. Yes, some of the earlier ballads were a bit sacherrine and indistinguishable, but the albums were nonetheless solid efforts. I can't imagine Jermaine helping her to regain her footing amid an ever-changing music climate. But here's one idea: ditch the guest rappers.

Don't think it's possible with Dupri.

Jermaine is always convinced these are urban artists not pop artists. He should manage someone like Ciara.
