Prince was in talks to be the male co-lead on "Love Will Never Do Without You" as well, but JJ/TL decided to have Janet sing the first verse in her lower register instead. Prince often covers "...Lately" in concert, and Janet was present at a dinner that supposedly took place at Hayvenhurst in the '80s where Prince, MJ and LaToya were the other guests (P supposedly made moves on LaToya). Janet used to go to The Time/Vanity 6 concerts with her mother, and has always been a big fan of Prince's. I think that "sister of a genius" comment was just Prince being Prince--he's always a little catty and shady.
