Your Favorite Beatles album and why

I'd have to say my overall favorite has to be The Beatles affectionately known as The White Album. I pick this particular masterpiece because it laid the foundation for the great double albums that followed, sprawling, experimental, messy, self-assured, socially concious, melodic and genre-straddling, yet with a sense of cohesion. This album laid a blue print that has been matched only by a select few, two of my favorites are Songs In The Key of Life, the 1976 landmark masterpiece by the great Stevie Wonder and Prince's 1987 masterpiece "Sign 'O' The Times, one that I consider the last great double LP. The Beatles took everything they had experimented with from Revolver through The Magical Mystery Tour and pulled off a sonic masterpiece. The similarites of the album string that led up to this album are found in both the careers of Wonder and Prince. Both of whom created groundbreaking sequential albums that were also staggering in their greatness, before coming up with a masterpiece that outdid everything that would come before or after because of its overwhelming reach. This album should be heard by anyone that considers themselves a true Beatles fan and or music lover because more than any other album by the group The White Album displays the depth and breadth of their ability.

I would have 2 say ~Abbey Road~ the 1st half has the classic tunes Something, Come Together, Here comes the Sun etc (excluding Octopus's Garden of cause!). Yet what makes it my favorite album is the 2nd half from Sun King 2 Her Majesty, the album just flows so beautifully.

I agree with your assessment of the White Album, to a certain extent. I do think there is some weak material on it, and it could have benefited from some proper production and a bit of cleaning up. There's some sloppiness there... but then that's part of the appeal, too.

My favorite has to be Abbey Road. Simply because it SOUNDS so amazing, and it contains my favorite Beatles track - Come Together. And also because it was the album that really hooked me into the Beatles when I was a kid. I don't think it's their "best" album - that would probably be Revolver or Sgt. Peppers. But Abbey Road will always be my favorite.

my favorite has to be "with the beatles" because i can remember when i was 5-6 years old my older brother bought it and used to sneak in his room and play it. it used to knock me out. of course, if he found out i was in there he'd beat me up, but that was all a part of the danger.

their best album is probably abbey road, but for sheer mindless joy, i go for with the...

Abbey Road

From the sly, slinky bassline from the song that kicks the album off, along with Ringo's round the kit fills("Come Together"), to two of the best George Harrison songs ever ("Something" and "Here Comes The Sun"), to the ever popular and still astounding suite on the second side. The vocal harmonies are tight as hell, the songwriting sublime, McCartney's bass playing is in darn fine form, the smooth as silk segues...the production is elegant without being overproduced, and the most accomplished of any Beatles record...this is the type of album for a college course.

Out of college, money spent
See no future, pay no rent
All the money's gone, nowhere to go
Any jobber got the sack
Monday morning, turning back
Yellow lorry slow, nowhere to go
But oh, that magic feeling, nowhere to go
Oh, that magic feeling
Nowhere to go
One sweet dream
Pick up the bags and get in the limousine
Soon we'll be away from here
Step on the gas and wipe that tear away
One sweet dream came true today

Revolver

just 4 the song "And Your Bird Can Sing" alone is gr8. The album cover is cool. The songwriting is delicious. There are some throwaways like "Got 2 Get U In2 My Life" & Doctor Robert, but it is a fantastic album with visual psychedelik wordplay!

I would have to say "Abbey Road" because it still sounds modern and innovative 35 years after it has first been released. AND it´s a beautiful album with many of my favourite Beatles songs. But I also love "Help", "Sgt. Pepper", "Magical Mytery Tour" and the "White Album" a lot. Damn I love each and every Beatles album, even "With The Beatles".

My favorite Beatles album is Abbey Road. Any album of any artist that I can listen to all the way is their greatest to me. Come Together kicks all forms of ass.

The White Album...a great hodge podge of songs and the double album that all others get compared to. (I just wish Revolution 9 wasn't on there...but thank god its at the end of the album)

Abbey Road...Simply Beautiful...Only faults are Octupus' Garden and I Want You(which isn't bad...but WAY too long).

Sgt Peppers...This is the one that got me into The Beatles. A work of art. Contains the best ever Beatles song...A Day in the Life.

Revolver, Rubber Soul, Help, and Magical Mystery Tour all are incredible too.

"Getting Better" is likely my favorite. "Day Tripper" and "Ticket To Ride" would follow closely.

I can't name an entire album because each one has at least one track that I don't like. But if you must put a gun to my head I'll have to go with "Please Please Me". That was back when they've had happier times. There was no experimenting or competition within the group. Everyone got their moment in the sun. It also showed that John, Paul, George, & Ringo were on the verge of becoming HUGE!!! By the way, this month marks the 40th anniversary of the album's release.

In order and the primary singles that stand out.

Rubber Soul: Norweigan Wood, You Won't See Me, Nowhere Man, In My Life

Sgt. Pepper's: With a Little Help From My Friends, Getting Better, A Day in the Life

Revolver:Eleanor Rigby, Here, There and Everywhere, For No One

More than likely to listen to these albums straight through. Sound more complete to me is what I mean.

Please Please Me, early Beatles simple, and because it has "Ask Me Why".

It is just a really good cd.

Wow, someone agrees with me on that. Wasn't it such a cool album? It had a way more happier energy to it.

The White Album.. its still revolutionary in my opinion.. It was a change in "pop" and they were on a different level, even if they werent equally on the same level of the groups past experiences..

Next would have to be Abbey Road or Magical Mystery

The Beatles were truely something amazing, and I think its essential for music lovers to listen to them.

The Beatles Rock!!!

and dont hate on Revolution 9... especially if u dont understand the process John went through to make that, and his meaning.. that was very experimental, in a lot of ways.. it took a while back then to make loops like that, they didnt have Magix music maker back then. remember that..

The White Album...I'm listening to it right now. I especially like side C. I absolutely love Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper's too, though, but if nothing else, The White Album has more songs. And a poster.

"Abbey Road","Sgt peppers Lonely Heart Club band" basically for me anything during there LSD period is tight for me as a Whole Album.the early Beatles were pretty much a Singles Act&Basically a Boy Band until they found the Buzz&took there Music into a whole New Level.

I love almost all of the Fab 4's stuff, but my favorite is "Sgt. Pepper," followed by "Rubber Soul."

I love all things psychedelic in general, and Sgt. Pepper was a gem of the era. Sure, it's less acid-charged maybe than the Liverpool-glam "Magical Mystery Tour" (another one I love), but I think Sgt. Pepper works better as a cohesive statement.

Rubber Soul, on the other hand brought about a turning point in the Beatles sound. It was a harbinger of things to come -- new, exotic instrumentation; more adult song writing; daring compositions and a departure from their traditional rock-n-roll roots.

Good stuff!

"Abbey Road", followed quite swiftly by "The Beatles".
