oh well, the album has its moments, but all in all is kinda dull, IMHO. "Jewels & Drugs" is a flow breaker...so out of place! It would make a decent 9 or 10 tracks pop album. It's better the BTW, but that doesn't say much either... Aura, Sexxx Dreams, ARTPOP, Fashion and Mary Jane Holland are the highlights.

I feel like this record is trying too hard to be more than what it is - an ok group of pop songs with some fresh "now" production wizardry and the occasional "odd" lyric here and there.

And it seems to be missing some classics. Is there any song on here worthy of being in the classic-GaGa pantheon with songs like Poker Face, Just Dance, Paparazzi, Bad Romance, Telephone, Born This Way, Edge Of Glory, You And I, hell...even Marry The Night, Judas, or Hair? I'm not hearing any.

I do like Fashion. Venus is kind of cute. The drunken vocal on Dope is interesting. IDK about the record as a whole yet.

I read a review of the album a few hours ago where they said pretty much what you just said. That it's trying too hard. They also said she's oversinging and trying to sound like Xtina. I plan on listening to this album tomorrow so I'll come back and give my 2 cents then. cool

It's kind of growing on me this morning. As a complete album, front to back, it might be her most enjoyable for me.

Jewels 'n Drugs is really the only one that sticks out like a sore thumb and makes me want to skip.

I still stay it's missing some of those classic, inescapable GaGa jams that we've come to expect from her, but it's also more cohesive than her other records imo.

The Swine lyrics are pretty atrocious. Yikes. The production is pretty crazy though.

Heres how I feel about the album:

(highlights are bolded)

1. Aura: 4/5 Very unique song. I don't feel like the first minute fits well with the rest of the song but it's still very enjoyable

2. Venus: 3/5 The chorus is nice and catchy but the rest of it sucks.

3. G.U.Y.: 2.5/5 It's not a bad song but it's the most forgettable song on the album

4. Sexxx Dreams: 3/5 Very different from anything she's done before. It sounds almost like Janet Jackson meets LMFAO

5. Jewels N' Drugs: 1/5 UNUH shake

6. MANiCURE: 4.5/5 Nice little rocky song. Chorus is extremely catchy

7. Do What U Want: 4.5/5 Awesome beat, very memorable and catchy chorus.

8. ARTPOP: 5/5 Probably my favorite Gaga song period. Just love everything about it. I could picture the Eurythmics doing something similar to it.

9. Swine: 3/5 It's an alright song I guess. Some parts of it are better than others

10. Donatella: 3.5/5 Kinda forgettable, still enjoyable

11. Fashion!: 5/5 Sounds like a Kylie song. Very campy. Could see this becoming big in gay clubs.

12. Mary Jane Holland: 4/5 Nice song. Production isn't unique at all though.

13. Dope: 1/5 (If it's trying to be serious) or 3.5/5 (If it's not) Sounds like a Screamin' Jay Hawkins song lol

14. Gypsy: 2.5/5 Another forgettable one.

15. Applause: 3/5 Most mainstream song on the album. Catchy and enjoyable nonetheless

Less is more...I was looking forward to this album, but on first listen it´s all a bit much.

Lots of layered voices, beats are all over the place, sound effects and screaming, but i´m missing just good songwriting.

I like the song "Artpop" a lot, but it's really an exception.

She really good with a piano and her voice, but she has this need to give every song this explosion of sounds, it's like a Transformers movie.

first impression: more enjoyable than Born This Way,

still not as good as The Fame/Monster.

/

couple of songs on here i instantly like a lot. but the

main problem remains - too many songs that have a

lot of nice ideas but don't really know what they are.

they shift tempo and mood every 30 seconds and the

whole thing feels totally unhinged.

/

when she gets it right, like "artpop", the songs get a

bit more room to breathe and just be what they are,

and they benefit hugely from it.

/

admittedly "aura" has a few switch ups too, but there

it actually works. great song.

Is there a chance that the "Queen" song featuring Janet Jackson would be a hidden track or even a bonus track on the official release? I guess we'll find out tomorrow huh?

-

Also, I wonder if Janet decided to have it on her upcoming release instead of Gaga's. IDK. Just thinking out loud. Would do you guys think happened to that song?

i think the whole janet jackson duet was just a false rumor?

really, if janet was involved with this project in any way at

all, she would have been on "sexxx dreams"

well-said, i agree completely. The songwriting just isn't there.

I wrote a negative review about the new album here:

Predictably, i'm getting bitchy comments from the Little Monsters. Ah well cool Ya'll should feel free to hop on over and give your opinions.

Album is awful and predictable, old beats, boring themes and she's oversinging on most of the tracks. RedOne needs to go as her main producers, it's not 2008-9 anymore, his beats aint good like they used to be(I never really liked his production imo, but they were fun at the time). The fame monster was her best album. People see her as a gimmick anyways, she should have stayed original and not gone over the top. The ballad Gypsy sounds like all the rest of the ballads she has done on prior albums except it has an upbeat avicii(i wonder if they are involved in the production of the song?) like beat.

Surprisingly, he has no production credits on this record and only one co-writing credit for Gypsy.

According to Variety online, Vevo will stream a live Gaga concert tonight, starting at 11:30 p.m., from what's described as a "top-secret location" in NYC.

On November 14, you'll be able to watch it on YouTube. In addition, an Album Release Party with Lady Gaga special will be shown on the CW November 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Just bought this today along with Celine's new album.

Only heard the first 2 tracks but "Aura" is a better start than "Marry the night", and that was a good start anyway, so positive first impressions from me.

Didn't like "Venus" much. As others have said on here, she often suffers from her tracks being overproduced. Theres a simple song in there somewhere, but it's a messy track. Reminds me how frustrating a track like "Hair" still is to me. Some lovely flashes of greatness in that song, but it's too overproduced to be the truly great pop song it could of been to me.....

Anyway, on my good hi fi, "Aura" really gets a workout. Sounds great on it.
