I only knew Shout and Mad World. And I always dismissed them because I thought: "Another Depeche Mode wannabes..."

Far from Depeche Commode wanna bes. Excellent all around "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I'm now on Change and I have to say that these guys did some of the most intricate pop I've heard. I'm ashamed I've slept on them for some many years.

I lost interest subsequent to the Seeds of Love project, but Roland Orzabal is still da man.

"Songs From The Big Chair" is an 80s classic.
Little? Yeah, right. It might be little but it's loud

I think they're great. Aren't they, like many once-big bands, not on speaking terms?

I like some of their songs.

Still friends, still touring, released an excellent TFF album in 2004, new one due this year. .

True, it was a great record. "Who Killed Tangerine?" is among their best tunes.

Always. Huge fan here. I'd recommend any of their albums (not a bad one in the bunch). I'm quite partial (as many die-hard TFF fans are) to Roland's solo-helmed Elemental and Raoul & The Kings of Spain. Both great albums that get contiually blasted by critics (especially Raoul). Roland Orzabal's solo album from 2001, Tomcats Screaming Outside, is up there in quality too (was listening to this and Raoul earlier today). Should be a big year for TFF. Curt Smith just release his latest solo album through his site, Bandcamp and iTunes. In October The Hurting will get a 4 disc box set treatment (CD1 album/CD2 b-sides and mixes/CD3 live sessions/DVD In My Mind's Eye concert from '83). And Roland and Curt are working on a new TFF album right now. If it's anywhere as good as their last (as mentioned above), it will be great. As someone above indicated, they were unfairly lumped in with synth pop bands early on (Hurting and Big Chair). They were definitely broader than that (not that synth pop is a bad thing).

That's a really good compilation! I have the DVD with the music videos for all of the songs in the exact same sequence as the CD.

Maybe one of my all time favorites... there trilogy of 80's records are Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

And it's silly to call them Depeche Mode wannabes considering... Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

My bad... sorry!
I've listened to Tears Roll Down (Greatest Hits 82-92) 3 times today and I have to confess my sins!
TFF lyrics on the compilation are better than the early DM albums. I just realized that. It's funny that they go from beatlesque to dark synth pop in the compilation!
Guess I found a new exciting group to fam about.

I'm not a big fan of downloading. Gonna buy used on amazon.co.uk. I think 90 % of my cds are used.

I vote yay! Tears For Fears are very underrated as songwriters, composers, AND producers.

I thought this was a joke thread at first. Who would say nay to TFF?!? "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Hell Yay! I break out Songs From the Big Chair every once in a blue moon. Head Over Heels is a classic smooth tune. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Roland & Curt's joint recordings — The Hurting, Songs from the Big Chair, The Seeds of Love, Everybody Loves a Happy Ending — make up a consistently great discography. (Not that Roland's solo work under the TFF name is bad by any stretch.) I'm very excited for the new album! "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I could see not hearing "Sowing the Seeds of Love," but I'm shocked you'd never heard "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" or "Head Over Heels"! Between movies, TV, commercials... well, I would've thought those two would be every bit as inescapable as "Shout." "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I have been a TFF fan since their debut album when I was in high school. [Edited 8/7/13 7:05am] "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Fuck yes!!! even though I love a wide range of their work, "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" has and will always be my #1 favorite song by them. I've loved it since first hearing it at 3 yrs old when it came out in '85!!!! [Edited 8/7/13 7:07am] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

My bad. I thought I read something about them having a falling out. Good to know that's not the case.
