The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that the late Barry White will be honored posthumously with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 12, at 11:30 a.m. “People can’t get enough of Barry White’s music and even though he passed away many years ago, his songs will live on in the hearts of many,” stated Ana Martinez, Producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “We are honored to have Barry White, his legendary voice and timeless songs immortalized on the Walk of Fame."

Emcee Leron Gubler, President & CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and guest speakers wife Glodean White and Berry Gordy will help unveil the star at 6914 Hollywood Boulevard across the street from the Dolby Theatre in the category of Recording. The star ceremony will be streamed live exclusively on www.walkoffame.com.

As iconic as Barry was I think its terrible its taken so long for him to be honored in this way.

And if he gets the Rock and Roll HOF nod/induction, it'll be a similar type of thing. Should've gotten it sooner. Oddly he gets his star ten years after his death. It's funny he used to look at the stars when he traveled there at 17 dreaming he get one. Now he gets one but he's not alive to see it.

I don't think they just give out the stars like an award. I think someone has to make a request for it (like a fan club) and then pay for it.

Correct. The artist/actor/radio personality has to be nominated and there is a fee of $30,000. Anyone can nominate someone in any category if the nomiee:

- Has has been in the business as a professional for at least five years

- Has contributed to charity or the community

- Is gauranteed to show up if selected

- The person's management approves the nomination

- A posthumous nomination has a five year waiting period.

I'm glad they mentioned Glodean White as Barry's widow because they never divorced. They just remained friends after their separation, which is remarkable.
