Rant:D'angelo & ?uestlove should stop raving about Prince publicly I'm kinda sick and tired hearing D'angelo & ?uestlove's constant Prince's ass-licking since..what..2000? It's too obvious that they worship the ground that Prince walks on. They said stuff like "Voodoo is an audition tape for Prince", "Dinner with Delores' ending is the greatest thing ever happened in postmodern black rock history", yada yada yada blah blah blah. They're great musicians at their own right, but this never-ending public fandom is irksome and infantile to say the least. What's worse is I don't think Prince has given any positive feedback or appreciation towards their continous raves for him (cmiiw). He didn't even bother to come to that tribute show. So, enough already! Anyone?

I haven't heard D say a word about Prince in a minute-he at least has turned it down. Questlove, aka your 70 granny who talks mad shit at bingo night, on the other hand, turns up at any and every Prince related event like a crackhead showing up at church potluck dinners.
I basically think Prince is fed up with those two and he should be. But at least D and Quest have actual talent, unlike some dick riders, Miguel *cough*. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries." |

I'm more annoyed with Questlove than with D'Angelo. D'Angelo hasn't gave a lot of interviews, and he's battling his own problems. Questlove on the other hand, is a full time music critic and journalist. If he spent more time, focusing on the career trajectory of The Roots, maybe they would be known by the public as being a force to be reckoned with in contemporary music than being the house band for Fallon.
Questlove, is no different than most Prince fans who thinks Prince's best work ended in '88. But the way he and Toure act like they are best friends with Prince and P shews them away like flies is comical at times. "I Would Die 4 " or as Questlove refers to it "the best Prince book ever", has these two "experts" waxing poetic on everything from Prince's parents to how P was with women in bed, is still downright creepy. The way Toure scurried to Dr. Funkenberry to ask him how Prince felt about the book, after Toure said a lot of unflattering things about P's relationship with his parents amongst other things. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR |

Come to think of it, yeah maybe D has toned down his Prince fandom to a certain degree, although him associating himself with Leeds and Jesse, etc doesn't really help matters IMO.
And..Toure...*sigh*...what can I say?

I haven't, but I think it's been discussed to death here and the consensus seems to be generally negative (cmiiw). [Edited 8/24/13 2:52am] Is everybody wet? |

Yes, I did. It reads like a psychologist giving half-baked analysis of Prince's lyrics and motivations. Toure makes a lot of presumptions about Prince's decisions involving his early career. Not to mention, his theory on how Prince was "big brother" to Generation X. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR |

I see, wow
In all honesty, I can't say I read a single work by the man. I want to gain an objective opinion about it, but its hard to be motivated to pick one up espechially when his public persona is extremely annoying. |

Toure has one of the most annoying voices of all time. Also re D's P fandom, Eric Leeds has played with D also. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries." |

I agree. I can't understand how such a "Prince scholar" (sic) can praise a book as mediocre as Touré's. Toure hasn't neither the musical nor the sociological abilities to write a book like the one he tried to write. |

^ I cant stand fake ass Questlove. Thats one of the things that I find most annoying about him. He comes off like he is so music conscious and political but he makes the most dumbest/uneducated comments of all time. A person that is educated about the history of music would not make alot of the comments he makes. I just think his whole way of thinking is "surface" and to "please people". It is no where near "militant" like he tries to come off.
D Angelo is perfection in my books He hardly ever talks about Prince and he doesnt seem phoney. He is more low key. I find his relationship with Quest kinda odd because they both seem so different.

I've never understood the dislike for Guestlove on this site. I think the way he speaks so fondly of Prince's stuff and doesn't hide his fandom is just a positive thing. He should be an honorary .orger. |

Questlove is a music snob and his huggy bear ass ain't got nothing to be snobby about. Add to the fact that he has appointed himself D's mouthpiece and lead cheerleader and as I said, talks more shit than your 70 year old granny at bingo and we got a problem. I see the points people are making here on both sides.
Not gonna lie, I would've been at that 2 man show that they recently had. Front and center too I know that was some good music. Too bad it wasn't in my area. |

Right after MJ passed, He said that Beyawnce was the new Michael Jackson (why say that after he passed!?!?! ) and he "indirectly" minimized Michael's impact in order to justify Beyonces success.
If he likes her then fine.... BUT why try to bring MJ down to make her seem superior??? Gurl he wrote a long ass essay about this on twitter
ALL respect I had for him went straight out of the window. After he got cussed out on twitter, (by MJ fans and non MJ fans) he tried to back track his statements.... smh
(His dumb opinion doesnt really matter ) but if that is really his opinion why backtrack it just because alot of people disagree? If your so militant about your opinions why not stand by it? He is full of bullshit. Even if he didnt back track it... I simply can not take someone like that seriously who claims they are a music historian, music messiah, music snob etc
I also dont like how he goes out of his way to speak on D Angelo's behalf. I think D Angelo is unaware of the comments Quest makes about his music most of the time. Thats not D Angelo's fault but he some how ends up taking the heat over dumb comments Quest makes.
