Metallica To Play Legendary Apollo Theater by Jeff Giles, August 22, 2013 9:00 AM
The guys in Metallica are going ‘Through the Never’ this fall with their first-ever 3D concert movie, but that isn’t the only stop on their itinerary. They’re also headed to Harlem. . Blabbermouth reports that the band has booked a show at the legendary Apollo Theater on Sept. 21, a special event timed to celebrate the revival of their Mandatory Metallica station on the SiriusXM satellite radio network. Subscribers can look forward to commercial-free Metallica from Sept. 13 through Oct. 6. The station also will broadcast the Apollo show. . That’s not all: According to Blabbermouth’s report, subscribers and members of the band’s fan club “will have opportunities to win tickets to the gig very soon.” . It’s part of a busy fall for Metallica, with ‘Through the Never’ bowing on 3D IMAX screens on Sept. 27, the soundtrack due in stores on Sept. 24 and another new documentary in the pipeline. And then there’s the matter of following up their most recent LP, 2008′s ‘Death Magnetic,’ which Lars Ulrich recently vowed would happen next year. “We’ll have run out of excuses for not doing it by then,” he told fans at the band’s Comic-Con appearance. “2014 will be all about making a new Metallica record.” You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton | |
