NEW YORK (AP) -- After bringing Jackie Robinson to the big screen, Chadwick Boseman is going to try another icon: James Brown. - Boseman has been cast to play the Godfather of Soul in a planned biopic by "The Help" director Tate Taylor. The film from Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment is currently untitled. Mick Jagger and Brian Grazer are among the producers. - The project has been in development for years, with various actors and directors attached. It's set to finally begin shooting this fall in Mississippi. - In an interview Monday with The Associated Press, Taylor said of the great soul singer: "Those are big shoes to fill." -

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll believe it when I see the movie. I'm tired of getting my hopes up for these biopics that don't ever seem to see the light of day. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

He's a bit tall to be JB to me but if he can dance and pull off the splits, I suppose he could be cool. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I don't have an opinion on dude yet because I haven't seen "42". However, my vote still goes to Mr. Philip Edward Van Lear from Tyler Perry's Meet The Brown's. Dude even has the raspy voice to pull it off. - Check him out... -

Philip Edward Van Lear would be perfect for an older James Brown! He has the look and raspy voice. But they may need a double to do the dancing . James danced and did the splits up until his untimely death. Which makes me think! I wish Prince would start doing them again . will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

it's about time that a Jame Brown biopic was made James has a compelling story. If they do it right, this could be a really exciting film.

Yeah. I just wonder with these type of pics how far are they willing to go in telling their story. We saw what recently happened with the Freddie Mercury biopic with Sasha Baron Cohen (sp?) dropping out of it because of them whitewashing the story for the kiddies. I say, if a person's life wasn't PG/PG-13, then don't try to make as such. I know the studios got to make their money but I feel that they still could if the story is compelling enough and done well.

I generally care less about physical resemblance than most people when it comes to biopics. Since no one will look exactly like the person they are portraying, sometimes it's even easier to be immersed in the story if the actor look noticeably different.
More imporant is the acting chops and, of course, the writing. Biopics of huge stars always seem like an exciting idea. But, many suffer from formulaic writing and really don't convicingly reveal anything about the subject or the times they lived in other than the most basic things you could get from a Wikipedia summary.

I agree.I think that any biopic should be honest and not hold anything back. They should not sugarcoat anything.

Awhile back, there were rumors that Spike Lee was going to direct this film.

In spite of the critical praise Spike received for "The 25th Hour," I think Hollywood is just about tired of Spike if not already. He seemed to have burned some bridges over there.
