Rihanna is no better singer than Beyonce ... come on here. Beyonce is overrated in the dance department, but Rihanna is a terrible dancer.
so no, do not agree.
but Rihanna has more catchy songs, yes. |

Rihanna has one of the most annyoing goddam awful "voices" in music history, Beyonce at least does own quite a decent voice. and on occasion she even knows how to use it
but the material of both is generic, uninspired and boring for the most part
so what is a better dinner? straw or grass? tell you what... who the fuck cares!!
[Edited 8/9/13 3:32am] Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy! |

I advise you next time to put some arguments to backup your opinion! Rihanna is better that Beyoncé? Just like that?
They both suck a dick musically, Rihanna's music is a total mess; unoriginal, uninspired (like Dancelot said) and filled with weak EDM production.. her lyrics are nothing but a whole bunch of cliché words... Beyoncé is better at least when it comes to vocals tho her music lacks something and personally I feel that she maintains the same vibe for every song she does, she just changes the lyrics, you can't just grow as an artist if you keep releasing the same sound over and over. Finally I'd like to say that Rihanna's voice is one of the most things I can't stand in this world, it gives me lung cancer.

It's completely amazing to me that on a Prince board (an artist who was once so amazing at writing catchy pop songs) shits on Rihanna's music so aggressively when in many ways it is similar.
I gather the above poster has not spent much time listening to much of the material on her records but I can tell you that there's a lot of really fun catchy pop music in her catalogue. From Evan Rogers (who during his solo career covered Private Joy) to The Dream, she's got top notch songwriters helping her.
The look and the music are a great fit much in the same way good pop music from the past has proven. While you may not enjoy listening to her voice, there's no denying that in a pool of singers from a variety of genres who all sing the same, Rihanna's tone is unique.
Whatever - I feel like I'm talking to a bunch of folks who have more than likely not sat down and actually listened to the music so I suppose I am more than wasting my time here. Further still, don't bother come back here and tell me that you have listened to the music when you know you haven't. |

Sure, she is - in the same way a pelvic exam is way better than a colonoscopy. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

Although I've had stomach cramps that I enjoyed more than listening to Beyonce's music, at least she can sing in more than one key. Rhianna has that one key she always sings in - off-key.

No, what's amazing about the org is that there are 2 kind of people, those who love the old music and hate every new mainstream song and those who have love for the oldies BUT still appreciate artists doing new music! and neither one of those 2 kinda people think Rihanna is a serious artist.
Personally I listened/still do to her songs from Loud or R Rated or even her current albums! Yes! It's sometimes catchy and fun and one doesn't simply listens to Rude Boy/Only Girl without shaking his/her ass but it's not that kinda pleasure you feel when you listen to Janelle Monae or Adele, its a "fake" one, nothing's special but the choruces and the lyrics.. As I said this is just musically.
Vocally RIHANNA is awful! I know its a matter of octaves and ranges but the girl can't do anything justice live and she ends up sounding like a dying duck.. You might bring me a few of her decent TV performances such as Stay at The grammys or anything at elsewhere to create this image of a "good singer", but on tour (Where people spend money they saved for a long time and then they get surprised by this young woman who doesn't sing and uses gimmicks to cover it?!) she simply sucks. |

Funny - she must have had an off night when I saw her last as she surprised me with how well she could sing. Now don't get me wrong, she isn't Whitney Houston but Kurt Cobain wasn't Eddie Van Halen either.
I gather you think her music is shallow where Adele and Monae both create a more sophisticated form of musical expression. You can frame your disdain any which way you want but at the end of the day that girl Rihanna has a whole bunch of songs that I enjoy listening to - some of which have far more going on musically then most non-musicians on this board could even begin to think of. If you're looking for an example check Where Have U Been. From the acoustic guitar intro to the trancish synths - this is the type of funky pop Prince laid the foundation for!

You're wrong. Period. Rihanna is nothing but a chocolate Bratz doll version of Britney Spears, with a more petulent attitude. Her music is bad and her singing is a joke. She sounds like cattle being branded, and her music is way too cheesy for a woman of color. I'm not even a big fan of Beyonce, but I'd take her with a broken hip and laryngitis over Rihanna on her best day. She's terrible. I find her fame offensive. |

Your music would be more "versatile" too if you had to rely on too many producers & beatmakers as well. That argument is a weak choice of a smoke screen.
At least Debbie has produced herself on certain occasions (she still holds the all-time record of being the youngest producer in the history of Warner Bros Records, a title once held by Prince, mind you! ) . Rihanna has NEVER produced her own tracks, not once ever! At least Debbie has written her own songs most of time. Rihanna has not written one freaking lyric in her entire music career. At least Debbie can play keyboards. Rihanna has NEVER learned to play an instrument in her entire life.
Beyonce is no better neither. She's infamous for written only 4 words OR changer a few lyrics in a song that is given to her and dare to received album credit as a "co-written". |

Beyonce is a good singer. She would be a better singer if she didn't scream so much and act like it's singing. Rihanna can't sing. She sounds like a goat. Beyonce is a better performer as well. She actually can hold an audience. Rihanna just gets out on a stage, wears tight clothes (which Beyonce does often too) and makes goat noises for an hour and a half. Rihanna hasn't written a single song while Beyonce has at the least changed the words to songs others have written for her. |
