Is It Me Or Are We Witnessing The Re-emergence of Pharrell?

Seems like out of the blue dude is becoming a presence again. Was he on some hiatus or something or was he producing all the while but nothing really jumped off?

Co-writing this little ditty...

I didn't bother mentioning "BL". Too easy. BTW, I'm familiar with his movie scoring for "Despicable Me" but I'm moreso talking about his music production for albums and radio.

It's amazing that "Get Lucky" is such a hit even without a video.

He's always found a way to appropriate while sounding fresh. He picked the right projects at the right time.

I think he & Raphael Saadiq have always managed to revive their own careers.

He's winning Producer of The Year for sure... I can't see any producer this year who had commercial succes...

Right! Speaking of Mr. Saadiq, I think he's past due in giving us a new album. Wonder if it's on the way. hmmm

I can see the Grammys but I think his solo album would still flop like his last one, or .. say.. like Will.I.Am (although "Scream & Shout" was a smash).

His first solo album had a whack first single. This time,if he comes up with something catchy like "Blurred Lines" for his first single, the album will be a smash.

I concur!

I'm ready to hear a new musical direction from him, though. While I pretty much enjoyed his "Motown" tribute situation going on in the past two albums, I'm kinda interested in what other ideas he could come up with.

I'm with you on that...I think he's done enough of that 60's/70's vibe. If he could get back to that signature sound he does so well...along the lines of "Instant Vintage" with a fresh new flow, I'd be sold. His website is pretty dried up right now. Doesn't look like it's been updated since 2012.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

That was terrible for a debut lead single.

Agreed. I thought this unlikely mashup with Crowded House's "Weather With You" made the song infinitely better:

Not a good sign for a beat guy like Pharrell! lol

I find it hilarious that ~6 years ago Madonna was bashed till no end for "working with him too late" and yet now he recorded not only some of the biggest hits of the year but also tracks with Beyonce, Mika and Kylie Minogue. I wouldn't be surprised to see his credits on the next Britney or Rihanna albums.

maybe Hard Candy was ahead of its time? lol

I love the work that Madonna did with Pharrell.I seriously think that she should work with him again.

^No, since most of their work was fun early 80s throwback. wink It's just that those rules M fans created to justify their taste about what she does, it became irrelevant with Pharrell still being a top producer (plus Timbaland produced the best selling album of the year!)...

I don't think they should work together again though, I doubt they could create anything new. Plus Madonna's retread to William Orbit was already embarrassing and fan-pandering (even though most of his tracks were actually done by other people mainly like Klas Ahlund or Free School). There are still lot of artists Pharrell can hook up with and create cool stuff.

I really don't think it's possible for any producer and artist to create anything that's truly "new".There's just no more ground to break lol with William Orbit as one of the producers, many Madonna fans expected MDNA to be another Ray Of Light, but you can't duplicate a classic album.

He already worked with Britney before if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe not groundbreaking but you definitely get more of an organic sound from artists like

Ledisi, Mint Condition, and Eric Benet. You definitely won't hear MC rehashing a track that's already been done and calling up the flava of the week rap artist to get a hit. I thought Eric Benet's News For You to probably be one of the best songs to come out last year then either him or the label(probably the latter) thought it was a good idea to do a remix over a Lenny Kravitz track with a rap verse from 2 Chains. eek Why F up a great song that was already hot with a remix? It's not the 1990's anymore. Pharrell has done some good things in the past particularly with Kelis because then it was fresh and new and of course the joint with Babyface but as of late he hasn't done anything I would consider great.

Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint
