I finally got a sealed copy of rick james throwin down lp

it costed me 12 bucks and 86 cents in which I really wanted it badly so I finally got it. Money talks is the best track on this one and it grew on me and even though I thought that 1999 should have gotten the best r&b/soul award back in 1983, I really liked rick james acceptance serenade on the guitar and voice......

For a sealed copy, 12 bucks seem like a good bargain smile

Ad I agree, "Money Talks" is the album's ace card nod

I'm surprised that this album hasn't been remastered/reissued by now. It's an essential album in Rick's catalog and a 2-CD Deluxe Edition is long overdue.

Congrats to you for owning this one. Happy is my pick from this album. I'm a sucker for a great love song. fallinluv

Happy is my fave duet from Rick and Teena. Fire and Desire is the popular one, but I still choose Happy over that one.

What's up with "Glow"? I don't think that album has ever been available on CD.

I'd be interested in having that album on CD.It's a very underrated album that didn't get the attention/success that it deserved.

Actually, it's being reissued twice as a Japan import this year. The first one, which was released earlier this year, is listed on amazon for $50.45!!!eek The one slated for later this year is listed as a pre-order for $20.99.

I still have my two-fer CD from the 90s of "Throwin Down"/"Street Songs" so I think I'm just going to stick with that. wink

I was looking at my cassette of Glow on the weekend thinking "I need to track this down on CD". So no one has Glow on CD?

How can that be if I have friggin' Cold Blooded on CD?

I saw a bootleg of "Glow" on Ebay and Gemm a few years ago. They may still have it listed on Gemm. Not sure how the sound quality is. But, Motown never issued "Glow" on CD in the U.S. (I'm reading on amazon by a reviewer that there was a very rare Japanese CD pressing of it, which is news to me). "The Flag" could use a reissue, too. I believe that one was released on CD back in the day but pressed in small quantities. Why does Universal keep reissuing "Street Songs" but not "Glow" and "The Flag" for people who are interested in those titles????disbelief err

That is a nice track! Thanks for reminding me about. I still think that Rick James, in his prime, was amazing.

I have a copy of the Japanese mini-LP cd that was released earlier this year. The sound quality and packaging are excellent! But the upcoming release from Japan should sound as good I would think, definitely a lot better than the two-fer which also did not include the full version of "Dance With Me".

"Glow" has never ever been on cd, the only copies that exist are bootlegs. I reckon it will come out in Japan at some point, don't know what is happening with Universal USA, they seem to have reduced their reissue program as far as physical cd's are concerned sad

If you can't wait, you can now download it from Itunes or Amazon. There's for bonus tracks: Standing On The Top (long extended version), Hard To Get (12 inch instrumental), She Blew My Mind (69 Times extended version) and the instrumental of "She Blew My Mind (69 Times).

nod I have 'The Flag' on CD.I don't think it's one of Rick's best albums.

I've never heard it. I looked at the track listing and I don't recognize a single song on it. Is that why he left Motown? I don't think they did any promo for it. I still wouldn't mind having it on CD though, for a reasonable price. biggrin

the (minor) hit single was "Sweet And Sexy Thing",a formulaic,by-the-numbers throwaway jam.It got a little airplay in the summer of 1986.A second single "Forever And A Day" was later released but it bombed.

It was Rick's final album for Motown, which is probably why it wasn't promoted aggressively. It's not a very good album. All the songs sound alike and the songwriting is uneven throughout. It's the type of album that an artist gives to a record company when they're getting ready to leave that label, lol.

You have just described 90% of the albums on the Billboard charts today. it probably would have been a huge seller if it were released today.lol

LOL...you misread my post lol I said "I DON'T think it's one of Rick's best albums".

I agree,he was really messed up by that time.Every song on that album has the same music that he used on "Party All The Time"...lol...alot of synthesizers and drum machines.....lacking the horns and the true funk that we heard on earlier records. It's a very sad record, actually.

yep, I bought the flag cd in 1993 while in the 8th grade and my uncles clowned me so hard for even having it. my uncle said that rick basically threw that album together and it sounded like he was using airbeats....everytime, that I would start listening to wave your freak flag, rally around the red, black and green acapella, they would start clowning me and so I started setting it on repeat mode just to get on their nerves.....lol.....that cd and dont give up on love from my garden of love lp, my uncles clowned me so hard over those two pieces that I traded all my rick james lps in for store credit to get the barkays propositions lp,nightcruising lp, as one lp and light of the world lp. I went into the veterans that was hard next to rick james and that inspired rick james and even james alexander said on their unsung that rick used to come to their shows and would snap pictures of larry dodson while they were performing....
