Of the two, Tevin generally had the better material and voice (but Jesse Powell's "All I Need" is better than every Tevin Campbell song.) Truth be told, I don't really miss either one though. Both of their voices were way too obnoxious and erratic, and neither had the makings to be long term stars.

Tevin was charming, but never had a "scene" he fit into. It's like he was too young, or too new, to comfortably fit into the early-mid 90s R&B teen scene that housed acts like Good Girls, Shanice, Tracie Spencer and Hi-Five...and later he became slightly too old and too dated/uncool to fit into the follow up group with Usher, Brandy, Aaliyah, Monica, etc. He was basically a male version of Tamia who existed in the middle, and managed to have a little bit of success during that down time when there was no obvious "teenage" R&B/pop scene, but couldn't sustain it.

And Jesse was like a runner up on a reality singing compeition who, despite not winning, manages to score a record deal. Obviously talented, but neither he or his music had enough personality to break through just being buzz-worthy.

And I think both of them are super duper mega gay; unlike Tevin, Jesse was just never big enough to have followers and get caught.

I would never have come up with this comparison in a million years. On one hand, you have a singer who was a household name on the R&B scene with 10 top-10 hits (including 4 #1's: "Tomorrow," "Tell Me What You Want Me to Do," "Alone With You," and "Can We Talk"). OTOH, we have Jesse Powell, who didn't even release 10 singlea total and only managed to score 1 major hit ("You"). Advantage: Tevin.

I'm a big fan of "All I Need," but it's nowhere near as good as, say, "I'm Ready."

My vote goes to Tevin.

Def Brotha Tevin...Last I heard he was doing his thing either off or on broadway. If Tevin had the Gift for writing/Producing like Luther he would still be putting out records regularly...His voice is perfect for R&B & Pop radio...

Love both.... Tevin is obviously overall better (voice and music). Jesse is underrated though. Jesse could SANNNG his ass off.

Tevin has a new project coming out early next year. Also he is currently in the studio with Teddy Riley!
