Woodstock Revisited Didn't notice any posts on the 44th anniversary of the original 1969 Woodstock concert. So rather than go the obvious route and post a bunch of concert clips, I found an interesting film that has a different take on not just the event but the town and times. How Woodstock the town became Woodstock the movement. LONG before the festival that made "Woodstock" a household name, the town of Woodstock, NY, was home to an amazing series of artists and individualists who pushed social and sexual boundaries starting in 1902 with the onset of Byrdcliffe, Woodstock's first arts colony. Join director David McDonald as he takes viewers on a wild and psychedelic ride through 100 years of history, from the outrageous Maverick Festivals of the 1920s to the days when Dylan, Joplin and Hendrix strolled the town's streets as residents. As the 40th Anniversary of the Woodstock Festival comes and goes, Woodstock Revisited is the only really new addition to the Woodstock legacy for over forty years. In fact, you'll emerge from the experience with the understanding that Woodstock didn't end after those three days in the mud... In fact, it's just begun. Woodstock...You Can't Get There From Here (Really!) Lots of people want to know, "Why haven't I heard of this film already? And why is it that I haven't seen this film on TV?" Well, the story of Woodstock Revisited is very much a story of these modern, litigious times. Originally entitled, "Woodstock Can't Get There From Here," the initial version of the film was a hard-hitting documentary about the selling out of the sixties ideals. Ironically enough, it was put into legal limbo after threats of litigation by people closely associated with the Woodstock brand. The version of the film we now sell online is what we call the "happy" version of the original film, with sections, like The Band in Woodstock, that were not included in the original. Is it a better film than the original? Not better, not worse, just different. Instead of being hard-hitting, this version of the film...what we call "Woodstock Revisited," is nothing less than a love letter to the ideals of the 60s, and how they came into being. This version of the film has been seen in about 10 festivals worldwide (The Asheville Film Festival, The Woodstock Film Festival, The Workhouse Festival (Wales), The Nimbin Aquarius Festival (Australia), etc.) , and several others. http://woodstockrevisited.webs.com/ Music for adventurous listeners tA Tribal Records

Why is that ironic? Those Woodstock people are assholes.
The organizers of a little punk festival in the Oxnard area last weekend tried calling their event "Nardstock" and had to change it after getting a cease and desist letter from the people at Woodstock Inc.
These are the same people AFAIK who were responsible for Woodstock '99 - an official branded event. The people who paid to get into that were ripped off in every way possible. The organizers tried to rely on volunteers to pick up trash, and when they all quit the first day, refused to hire replacements. The portable toilets went uncleaned for the four-day festival, causing rivers of runny shit to flow into the campgrounds. They refused to let people bring food and water in and charged them up the yang for it inside the gates. They rounded up their security from the local unemployment office and paid them crap for 14-hour shifts, meaning a lot of THEM quit too. They wouldn't even pay for sunburn medication at the medical tents. With no guards in sight, women got raped during performances.
Every one of those decisions was made so that the Woodstock people would get a bigger check for the use of their esteemed name at the end of the day.
So FUCK Woodstock and the people who profit from it.
Next year, I voted, they should call it NARDAMONT. At least that festival seems to have started with the best of intentions LOL.

So, how do you really feel about the festival? "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

In reference to the artistic residents of Woodstock... They were willing to climb mountains. They were willing to...give up everything. Be penniless, poverty stricken if you will because it was more important for them to get their art out of themselves on to canvas. That was the most important thing. And, and they would prefer to die. As compelling as that." "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."
