mama didn't lie(jan bradley) the monkey time (major lance)
woman's got soul,twist and limbo,choice of colors,
i made a mistake,we're a winner...

The King of the Soundtrack IMHO.His Arrangements&Vocal warmth Combined with His Powerful Lyrics still cut like Fire on a Stick.Cats like Him&Bob Marley truly Have SOul Spelled over everything they did.Curtis's stuff on the Impressions,Gladys Knight,Aretha Franklin,Five-Stirsteps,etc.. still is Powerful Soul. His Influence on Leroy Hutson is Felt as well.A Toast To This Great Genius.

My favourite album of his is
There´s no place like Amerika todayfrom 1975.
It´s deep.Songs like Billy Jack & the
beautiful When seasons change!!!
I love everything he recorded.
He did some great stuff 4 other artists as well.
Like the Aretha Franklin album Sparkle incl.
the song Giving him something he can feel.
Such great production of that album 2
And yes...Staple singers Let´s do it again.
U just want 2 hear that song over & over.
Just like Trippin´out.
/peace manki

I haven't read it as yet, but it's a must have for any Curtis fan surely. It's scandalous it's taken all this time for him to get a book. Pete Burns also wrote the linernotes on his CD re-issues.

Kodjo

People get ready, there's a train comin'
You don't need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
You don't need no ticket you just thank the lord

People get ready, there's a train to Jordan
Picking up passengers coast to coast
Faith is the key, open the doors and board them
There's hope for all among those loved the most
There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner whom would hurt all mankind
Just to save his own
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner
For there is no hiding place against the kingdoms throne

People get ready there's a train comin'
You don't need no baggage, just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
You don't need no ticket, just thank the lord.

Thank U Brother Curtis
U such a nice and wise Man !

Can't go wrong up until "Short Eyes" OST, like with Stevie the 80s weren't pretty. His next good album was his last one New World Order in 1996.

Curtis Mayfield: People Never Give Up
Peter Burns

Synopsis
His songs of love, peace and understanding have influenced millions of people since his original band, The Impressions, achieved stardom. Over time he has been looked upon as a source of inspiration to the musical careers of Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Elton John and UB40. Analysing his tragically short life and career in detail, and quoting many interviews he had with the star over the years, Peter Burns celebrates the Chicago soul man who penned classics such as 'It's All Right', 'Choice of Colours', 'Superfly', 'Move On Up', and 'People Get Ready'. Complete with full discography and interviews with his contemporaries, this is the definitive account of his life and career.
