to be honest, I didn't like this when it came out. everyone at school here in Austria was crazy for the "Neue Deutsche Welle" while I was well... "different" in my taste... most were stuck to what was available in the limited Austrian radio scene (only one pop music channel then!) while I was hangin on AM short wave radio to catch AFN & other shit.... and Casey Kasem was god smile and gosh was I surprised when this song suddenly cracked the American charts and came on Caseys AT40.. WTF?

today I can appreciate it... but Peters English sucks! so here's the German original

I had a pet Pomeranian named after this song when I was a kid. I think I had heard "Space Oddity" maybe one time back then, so -- yeah, Major Tom was named after the Schilling song, not Bowie's.
