I loved her sly homage to Janet in this video

I was actually bored watching her video Everything she does has been done before, many decades ago.I guess this stuff is "new" and edgy to her young fans, who don't remember the 80s?

In all fairness, what is there to do that has never been done before? But I still agree with you, even though it's trying to be interesting, both video and song are quite blaha. The song did improve with the video though, at least for me.

maybe Gaga should stop trying so hard? just deliver a good song without trying to change the world. It's like she's bending over backwards trying to be edgy and bold.

Totally agree! She's trying way too hard. It doesn't work to create this artsy persona if the music is generic. At least not in the long run when people realize that this is all we'll get. But I understand that it must be hard for her as it can't be easy to become so uber famous and then having the preassure to stay edgy and popular. It's almost doomed to fail.

Lady Gaga slammed for 'fixing' YouTube view US charts boss
Lady Gaga has been called out for urging her fans to watch her new video 'Applause' repeatedly to inflate the number of views online by the boss of US charts and magazine, Billboard.
Fans are accused creating playlists which included only 'Applause' and playing these on a loop, adding huge numbers of views to the star's comeback track. Bill Werde, the editorial director of Billboard took issue with a now-deleted tweet from Gaga urging fans to watch her new video and ask others to do the same. YouTube and Vevo views contribute in part to the US Billboard chart, but Werde stressed it did not make a huge influence. Inevitably, Werde was later bombarded by abuse from Lady Gaga fans, with Little Monsters calling him 'retarded' and telling him 'you're a dumbass and we hate you'. Lady Gaga's 2013 comeback has not been the enormous success the star would have hoped for. In the US, she has been beaten in the charts by Katy Perry's 'Roar' single, while in the UK 'Applause' struggled to hit the Top Five, being outsold by Ellie Goulding, AVicii, Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey in this week's chart. She is rumoured to be rush-releasing a second single from her third studio album ARTPOP in September, and this week had a very public meltdown on Twitter, accusing US blogger Perez Hilton of stalking her and suggesting he posed a gun threat to her.

She needs to change the narrative soon. Between the urging fans to watch her video (I do understand it but still), the so-called beef with that Perez guy, having to tell her fans to stop being rude and insulting to anyone critical of their god monster queen, all reeks of a promotional campaign that is not going to plan. Dare I say it, she may come off a little desperate if she's not careful. - Her camp shouldn't panic and get back focused on the music. The VMA's this weekend would be a nice start. - BTW: What happened to that girl that sang, "Just Dance"?

Oh my, I wonder how far this will go. Things ain't looking great for her.

Really feels like a different person, doesn't it? The character and music were a lot more cohesive.

Her problem is she tries to hard to "outdo" Madonna.
You can not outdo someone who has done it all already.
I dont get the video and dont know what it has to do with the song
Never cared for her

The thing is we already know her "Edgy" side and she doesn't have to keep proving it. She could have come back wearing baby pink lip gloss and a poodle skirt and been totally cute... that would have caught more attention and probably gained more fans that could not stomach her hellion look she started rocking 4 years ago.

The song is abominable, EDM generic and evaporates from my memory almost in an instant. But that tone body--I'd be all over that!

song was pretty catchy. visuals were meh. it seemed pretty pretentious to me. but whatever, its pop music.

The Fame era I really liked--I even liked a couple of songs off her last one--but I simply don't care for this latest song... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

yawn
the balloon dress billowing about her face instantly reminded me of madonna's "frozen". same concept: face shots as she eyes us weirdly through the billowing fabric.
the rest of the video just hurt my eyes. not because it's bad, but because there is way too much in it. half the imagery would have done just fine. 2 or 3 characters and no more. it felt like she was playing 29 characters in the video and it's just too much.
so far, even after all the promo shots, the videos and interviews, the whole ArtPop project doesn't really have any real identity at all, it feels like throwing a bunch of things at a wall to see what'll stick. and it doesn't make for a pretty picture.
