Why didn't Taylor Dayne's career last longer?

If you ask me, she had all the ingredients to be in the same circle as Whitney, Mariah and Celine. She could sing every bit as good as them, and early Mariah and Celine cloned a lot of her music. In fact, she had the most "personality" of them all.

She's still performing, so her career is not over. Having hit records and getting on the radio does not make a career. Many acts don't get a hit at all or have few hits and stay in the business longer than some who do.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Every time anyone mentions Taylor Dayne...the song "I'll Always Love You" immediately pops into my mind. I just love the way she sings it and if I get married someday, it's definitely on the playlist. nod My 2nd favorite of hers is "Love Will Bring You Back". music

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Because her first few albums were on Arista Records. She may not have gotten the attention some feel she deserved because Nippy was Queen of Arista Records.

I was always a casual fan of Taylor's. I think her albums sufferred from a lot of mediocre songs. But that chick did have some pipes! She wiped up the floor with "I'll Always Love You" and "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love". I also dug "Love Will Lead You Back". I was always more partial to her ballads than the uptempo stuff. Think they were kinda taking her in the wrong direction with the dance music. With the right material, I could have seen her being big at Adult Contemporary radio, but, again, that was Nippy's main territory.

I absolutely hated her dance material.Songs like "Tell It To My Heart" and "Prove your Love" barf lyrically, these are basically the same song lol On these type of songs, there was too much yelling going on.

like someone said, she was better at ballads/adult contemporary."I'll Always Love You" is her best song, imo music

Those were the songs that started her career.

She did her second album and basically trashed her first one in an interview, and after that, it was a wrap for her. She said something like "I'm a rocker at heart" and that she was doing those songs because the label told her to.

I've always hated her cover of "Can't Get Enough..." machinegun

It might possibly be irrational, but it's there just the same. Hadn't heard it in years... just played it again... yep, still hate it. lol
