Can I ask where are you from? I'm surprised to see a thread about this Spanish group. They're the most popular Spanish band of the 80's.

Those of you who know Spanish should listen to Mecano. And those of you who don't, but don't care a lot about the literal meaning of the songs, should too. It's a very interesting band who could make awesome electropop and still be higly successful. Entre el cielo y el suelo is their most acclaimed album.

A funny detail is that in the video of "La fuerza del destino" posted here you can see a very young Penélope Cruz (maybe even teenager, as the song dates from 1989), current partner of Javier Bardem.

Strangely enough I live in Portugal (Porto) and I am 100% portuguese. I love music from all languages. And Mecano's songs are so well written imo. Language is no issue for me.

My first Mecano song was this one:

I agree regarding languages. I love songs mainly because of the feelings they awake in me, which is something not necessarily related to the lyrics.

I agree about Mecano. Lately I've been enjoying more the first albums, up to Entre el cielo y el suelo.

Indeed, "El fallo positivo" is a great song.

Talking about Spanish 80's groups, may I recommend you Radio Futura? In my opinion, the best Spanish pop band ever. La canción de Juan Perro is their best album to my ears.

Will check them out!

Strangely, the only spanish group I have bought all the releases was Fangoria.

Yes, Fangoria are great. Have you heard of Alaska's previous band, Alaska y Dinarama? Amazing music.

I also have all their albums. The one I play the most is Fan Fatal. I also have some stuff from the Pegamoides.

Alaska is so lovable. I remember I grabed her hand during a show (El Extraño Viaje era). It was like touching god.

And what about Portuguese music, mikematronik? Which band would you recommend? I love especially 80´s electropop, or music influenced by Prince... Any recommendation?

I can recomend you some great portuguese music.

One of the correct groups I enjoy is called The Gift. They are an electronic group and they do stuff in english. Their lead vocalist has a beautiful low voice. Here are some songs from them:

This song is their greatest hit here in Portugal and it's one of the few songs they did in portuguese:

My favorite group for the 80's is Sétima Legião. Imagine mixture of Joy Division with world & iberian music. A member of them was a founding member of Madredeus.

biggrin

Blasted Mechanism

They are weird and strange. World Music, Electronic, Reggae with suits. Every album has a new theme. Their shows are legendary... I almost collapse with all the movement and moching I did at one of their shows.

I love this one:

We never had a lot of Prince influenced acts. But as you can see (and listen), our music is very ecletic.

Wow, thanks a lot! I haven't got the time to listen to them now, but I'll do it on the weekend. I love discovering new music, and I didn't know any of these acts. Thanks again!
