First of all, you probably need to decide if you'd rather start with Parliament (more horn-based) or Funkadelic (more guitar-based). That would definitely help us give you suggestions.

At any rate, some good Parliament compilations are Gold (2 discs) or Give Up the Funk (1 disc). Funkadelic is harder because their output was split between 2 labels. For the Westbound years, go with Motor City Madness (2 discs) or Finest (1 disc). Not too familiar with the compilations after that, but maybe you'll be ready to buy the discs by that point.

I was on wikipedia and it's insane the amount of stuff there's on the P-funk universe. I have to confess I only know some songs.

what about these releases?

  1. Up for the Down Stroke (Clinton, Collins, Worrell, Haskins) 3:20
  2. Chocolate City (Clinton, Collins, Worrell) 5:36
  3. P-Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up) (Clinton, Worrell, Collins) 7:34
  4. Mothership Connection (Star Child) (Clinton, Collins, Worrell) 3:07
  5. Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker) (Clinton, Collins, Brailey) 5:43
  6. Do That Stuff (Clinton, Shider, Worrell) 3:38
  7. Bop Gun (Endangered Species) (Clinton, Collins, Shider) 8:28
  8. Flash Light (Clinton, Worrell, Collins) 4:28
  9. Aqua Boogie (A Psychoalphadiscobetabioaquadoloop) (Clinton, Collins, Worrell) 4:27
  10. Theme From The Black Hole (Collins, Clinton, Theracon) 4:37

1. One Nation Under a Groove
2. Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?!
3. Comin' Round the Mountain
4. Smokey
5. Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad (The Doodoo Chasers)
6. If You Got Funk, You Got Style
7. Icka Prick
8. Cholly (Funk Getting Ready To Roll!)
9. (Not Just) Knee Deep
10. Freak of the Week
11. You Scared The Lovin' Outa Me

They are the cheapest I found on amazon.co.uk. It's the cheapest amazon that ships to where I live, Portugal.

It's called "uncut" but some of the songs are chopped all to hell. disbelief Depending on how much more it is, skip this one and go for one of the others in the thread.

This looks like a pretty good latter-day Funkadelic compilation. "Maggot Brain" is from their earlier years, though.

As far as albums go I think Parliament was usually better but the best Funkadelic songs are above anything Parliament ever did
