Dan Van Patten (one of the original founding members of BERLIN) passes away at 60

This went, sadly, pretty much un-noticed, but thanks to the internet and Facebook for once it is the actual source of information. While checking on the upcoming new BERLIN album entitle "Animal" set for september 17th i came across this on Teri Nunn's facebook page. For those who dont know who BERLIN are they pretty much did it all ahead of their time, thats the best way to sum up BERLIN, pushing the rules of censorship and lyrical content this band really carved out a special spot in the very diverse 80's.

Dan Van Patten (no relation to Dick) was a founding member along with Chris Velasco and John Crawford. Crawford is really the only one you see in the bands videos when their first EP was released the classic "Pleasure Victim" was released, lead singer Teri Nunn even was not originally in this band she left to pursue acting and then was brought back in for the recording of the album. Dan was the original Drummer but both he and Chris were gone before the album was released or finished, Rod Learned who was the drummer on the album and also Dave Diamond (those of you who Bands reunited will remember them) Dan and Chris are mentioned on the Pleasure Victim album as playing, but sadly Dan passed away in July at the age of 60, which was interesting cause other Berlin members were much younger, Crawford and Nunn both are 52.

As for the band now Teri Nunn fronts it with 3 new members and she has kept that level of excitement they always had, their brief reunion on Bands Reunited was a great closure for fans of the original lineup as all played a part on that show and it was probably one of the best shows in the series.

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

That's sad. sad Berlin was an underrated band, yet most people only know them from the song "Take My Breath Away".
