Darker Than Blue -- Great BBC Curtis Mayfield documentary from 1995 Thoughtful documentary made by the writer Caryl Philips (an excellent writer in his own right) about Curtis' life and career, placing it in the context of the times his music grew out of and provided the soundtrack to. I remember being impressed by it at the time, just as I was discovering his music, and was pleased to see it again after many years when a friend let me know it had found its way to YouTube (along with everything else!).

Thank you for sharing this documentary. I love documentaries about seminal musicians and CURTIS MAYFIELD as a songwriter and musician is UP there with Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan, Lennon and McCartney. His socio-poltical messages are lyrics that I lean on to help me cope with my own issues and to help explain the problems in my own community and America. What I REALLY loved about Curtis is how topical he was. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR | |
