Madonna planning new album....Giorgio Moroder is one of the producers

Take this with a grain of salt, but The Examiner is reporting the following....

Billboard names Madonna the top solo act in their Hot 100 history

This weekend, Billboard released their list of the top artists since their magazine began tracking sales in the 1950s. We all knew the Beatles would be the number one group. But it was (sort of) shocking to find that Madonna is the magazine's biggest solo act of all time. We are not knocking Madonna's talents -- she is one of the most talented pop stars out there today. But we honestly thought that Michael Jackson and Elton John would come out higher since they have been around for longer. Then again, everybody knows that Madonna has 38 top ten singles, more than any act in chart history. You can expect Madonna's reign to continue as she starts working on her new album in September. Since Georgio Moroder has been named as one of the possible producers, we are very excited. We just hope that Madonna can come up with some killer ballads as well. "Crazy for You," "Live to Tell," and "I'll Remember" are some of the most memorable ballads ever produced and display Madonna's moving vocals.

I am so hoping this is true. I would love a new Madge album and hooking up with Moroder is an excellent idea. Think about it, Isn't it better that she works with him than some lame as flavor of the month hip hop producer? My dream is to have Nile Rodgers, Stephen Bray and Jellybean produce her like in the 80s but I know this will never happen. I'll gladly take Moroder for now. cool

I hope you celebrated the news. wink
This journalist is very funny, in 2008 (their 50th anniversary) Billboard already had Madonna as number 2, after the Beatles.
it is unlikely that MJ or Elton could change anything since then lol (ps MJ worked in the group, too, and overall he has more number one hits, top 10, top 40 and top 100).

Giorgio Moroder is a great producer, but his latest work with Daft Punk did not impress me.
in any case, this album should be better than the last two.

eek I'm not believing it's true right now. How'd she get her hands on one of the most important producers of the past century?!! I knew she would probably try to get one last major song (which MDNA didn't really have) but I don't think she'd start this quick. If this is true than it's a smart move considering all the late 70's style songs on the radio the past months.

Yeah, grain of salt with that one--what was the last good album Moroder was on board with... I know who I want her to collaborate with...

Actually Daft Punk revived him thank god for their new album. She must have found great intrest in it. Probably knows him and met him many times though.

I doubt this is true, she's set her sights on directing films, I'm pretty sure that's next for her and then an album/tour in a year or so.

I wouldn't be surprised if Madonna found some inspiration in that Daft Punk album that had Nile Rodgers (her Like A Virgin collaborator, still her biggest selling album) and Giorgio.

hmmm According Wikipedia (I know, too lazy to check the sources), LAV is her biggest-selling album in the US, but True Blue is her biggest-selling album worldwide. (Of course, The Immaculate Collection actually leads the pack.)

some fans are saying that she should just let Daft Punk produce her next album, but I don't know hmmm I like the idea of her going "retro" (if that's what she's planning). That seems to be what alot of artists are doing now and it's refreshing to see.

Giorgio Moroder is one of THE greatest electronic artists of all time. I think alliance with Madonna can potentially make them the best one-two punch duo of Giorgio Moroder/Donna Summers. cool

I appreciate this! Haha. I don't really count Immaculate Collection, but I didn't realize Like A Virgin was merely the North American best-seller.

No problem.

US Top 5 (in millions)

1. Like a Virgin 10

2. True Blue 7

3. Madonna 5

3. Like a Prayer 5

5. Ray of Light 4.4

Worldwide

1. True Blue 25

2. Like a Virgin 21

3. Ray of Light 20

4. Like a Prayer 15

4. Music 15

Just about half of her sales from the first 2 albums are from the US. It drops down to about one fourth for the next three albums, then down to less than a fifth for ROL. COADF sold almost as many albums in the UK as the US!

I'd agree on that, she is a force of nature, not always a "pure" force, but she is 1 nonetheless... I luved "Music", & some songs from these other cds.

This is really great news, and hopefully a recovery from the pill I had to digest with that MDNA garbage. It would be awesome if Nile Rodgers joined the team last minute or something as well.

I also agree Confessions and Hard Candy were amazing

I don't believe she outsold those artists though, it's great publicity for a comeback and reviving herself, that's all.
