Austin Brown-why didn't he make it?

If you don't know Austin Brown is the son of Rebbie Jackson. He was supposed to be the new one to take The Jackson legacy to high places. 85 was his debut album. Target Practice my favourite got megaplay I heard on this site but none after that. I haven't heard Austin's name anywhere radio-tv.He's good looking, sweet as Janet describes him and has potential. Highway 85 is his newest one.
Working up a purple sweat.

In general, I don't think the children of other entertainers become really popular. There's Simon Collins (Phil), Sean Lennon (John), Lalah Hathaway (Donny), Zak Starkey (Ringo Starr), Jason Nesmith (Mike), Dhani Harrison (George), Nona Gaye (Marvin), and others who released albums or performs, but haven't become mainstream popular. Some like Julian Lennon (John) & Nelson (sons of Ricky Nelson) had some brief success, but couldn't sustain it. Lenny Kravitz & Robin Thicke seem to be kind of popular though. I think Chaka Khan's daughter was part of a girl group in the 1990's.

Damon Wayans Jr is doing a pretty good job.

But to answer the question. He was just on the BET Awards and performed (only for about a minute though.)

In the past few years, J.Cole, Miguel, and Kendrick Lamar have become top selling artist off that one minute.

gimmick. I personally don't take the guy seriously. His music wasn't all that to me too.

Don't mean to come across as hating, that's just my opinion. Maybe a lot of people felt the same way as I do too.

He is a pretty good performer and not a horrible singer (needs vocal coaching though). If Chris Brown, Miguel, and Frank Ocean can be successful with average voices so can Austin. Not to mention, he is very good looking so that aint the problem

I think the problem mostly has to do with his lack of promotion and because his music isnt radio friendly. I actually enjoyed a couple of his songs. The only criticism I have is that he tries to sound to much like MJ but once again if Chris Brown can make an entire career off of doing that why cant Austin? I think he has alot of potential and I would like to see him make it.

i dont like his voice but i think he is pretty talented .i just read yesterday he was on some tour with kendrick lamar and miquel.i think its cool he's taking this route and focusing on his music instead of jumping into the spotlight as 'a jackson' and riding on coattails.

But does the general public know who he is? Is he as famous as Ringo? Does Zak have any popular records? The average person doesn't follow session musicians. It's like many people know Clint Eastwood, but not his son Kyle who is a jazz bassist.

That may be so, but that isn't what the thread is about. "Why didn't Austin Brown make it" is apparently about hitting the big time, maybe like his uncles and aunts. That's why I mentioned that usually the children of other performers don't get the big success of their parents/relatives. They might have enough of an audience to make a living performing music. But maybe not enough to be a millionaire. There's always an exception though like Liza Minnelli.
