I just downloaded this album. Luther Vandross wrote this song for his 1st album and it was callled Funky Music. He re-wrote it with Bowie for this album which Luther is all over.  |

Yeah, after all these years, I found out that Luther did backing vocals on Young Americans, as well as other tremendously talented black vocalists, and was a contributing song writer as well... David credited the black artists/musicians for this album--as they well deserved... Great album. David has and continues to collaborate with engineers/musicians that he has worked with before to continue to make good music even after all these years.... Hint, hint, to a certain someone...

The whole Young Americans album is great. I recommend people who like "plastic soul Bowie" to listen to an outtake from that era called "After Today", which is actually one of the tracks in which he hits higher notes in all his career. A great vocal performance.
