He's solid IMO. His first album was good but didn't have much longevity. He's not close to the most or even that corny. Now, Bruno Mars is freakin crony. His lyrics, the whole outdated look etc. he's just so cheesy it makes me want to puke. I do like Liquor Store Blues though.

I agree with this comment. Miguel is actually pushing R&B music beyond that cookie cutter boring ass simplistic chord progession shit that's all over radio. It sounds like the OP doesn't like his look more so than anything else. His performance on SNL was interesting. I didn't like what he did with the song, but I give him props for trying something new. The reason why everyone keeps talking about him is because he put out one of the BEST albums. I think you people should check out more of his stuff, I have a feeling he will be around for a while. He's an amazing writer.

Or you can listen to babyface, boyzIImen, R. Kelly, and all that other boring shit. I'm glad we have brothers like Frank, the weeknd, cocaine 80's, bilal and Miguel who is at least attempting to try something fresh. This ain't 1991 R&B.

The only song I really liked by him was "Sure Thing" but besides that he does nothing for me. He's songs sound so generic like that "Hickey" song that came up a couple years ago he did mad I dunno maybe its just me. People dissing Bruno but I find him to be way more artistic, overall better performer and songwriter than Miguel. (This says alot coming from me because 2 years ago I didnt even like Bruno lol)I find Miguel to be cheesy and boring.

I do like how alot of the alternative R&B singers like Frank, The Weekend etc are getting more shine. Im not a big fan of them but its good that R&B is moving into that direction instead of the same ol water down stuff from the Chris Brown's etc.

I personally wish R&B would go back to the 90s. 90s had a mixture of soul, funk, new jack swing, etc

Yeah, I agree. The Weeknd, especially, is putting out some really original music right now. I love his voice and the unique style he's got, I just wish his lyrics didn't seem to glorify hard drug use and misogyny. I am actually NOT going to his fall concert in NYC because of that. Still, he has undeniable talent.

I grew up on traditional R&B. Miguel and Frank Ocean are NOT traditional R&B. They are more of Alternative R&B artists, not traditional.

you're right they aren't ..it's modern R&B but still too much R&B for my taste...

You mean modern rhythmless bullshit.

Miguel should stick to jumping off stage and nearly killing himself. That's the only way I'd pay attention to him.

Miguel is cheesy or not, it's just a matter of opinions, but us being pissed off because he's compared to Prince we have no right to be pissed off! It's the media that compares him to P just like they compare Bruno to MJ.. they're just happy that they're doing their thing... and being compared to such legens is Indeed a compliment but it's not their choice..

As for me, Miguel is, you know, good, I like Adorn myself... but he doesn't play guitar and he's not a great performer, it's just this R&B-act type o thang! He sings good! He has good vocals, but as a performer on stage he lacks many things... cool..

Some of these new artists just dont put in the work to become complete artists. The audiences seem to have a high tolerance for bad acts.grandpa Back in the day, if an artist sucked, his ass got booed off the stage. grandpa Now it seems like audiences are happy to see anyone doing anything as long as its on a stage.

Now Janelle Monae put in work. I've seen early youtube videos on her performing on a rinky-dink stage in front of 50 people. Or some half assed record store with customers walking in front her trying to buy cds.

Well think the latest album is brilliant. I'm ony pissed off because him and the record company are still plugging 'Adorn'. Forget it. It's good but it's over. 'Use Me' and 'Do You' are the proper summer hits and time is running out. It's August already. Leave 'Adorn' ALONE.

Janelle is what I call a true artist..she was born in the ghetto she was very poor.she worked as a maid for being able to leave Kansas and follow her dreams..she founded her own record company by herself and she made it grow...she worked her ass off for being where she is now..her story is really inspiring..and you can see she believes in perfecting her craft( I watched an interview recently in which she said she wants to become a better musician.. she was saying she plays guitar and piano but spending a lot of times with people like prince or stevie wonder made her want to become better with instruments)..but it's true now everyone wants to achieve success immediately offering to the public the less they can..

about the 90's sound absolutely..new janelle's record should be an R&B record like that with funk, soul, jazz,-- wink

Can I ask a question: Why Bruno's music IS cheesy? Well, his music was cheesy with his debut album and I cite "Marry You" & "The Lazy Song" as one of the CHEESiest songs ever..

but his second album is a good record and he successfully manages to put great tunes, maybe the only song that might have his 2010's musical style is Young Girls, but others are completely different and instead he tried new genres like reggae rock/funk/soft rock/quiet storm and even JAZZ... Anyway that's your opinion, as of Bruno vs Miguel it's not actually that much intresting, they're friends I guess and Miguel will tour with Bruno next year.. Critically Miguel is more acclaimed because he's R&B and not mainstream (that's obvious) and Bruno's pop and critics don't seem to like that direction...

no problem..also the first record had a nice reggae song called liquor store blues...I like that song..I don't find the second record completely different from the first it's better probably overall yes but not completely different...but I still find him cheesy often..even if not always like before wink

OK - I'm a really open minded music lover but I have to get my hater on. This is one corny ass act. Why they keep comparing him to Prince is beyond me. He sucked on Saturday night live. He almost killed a girl trying to be cool on stage. His hair is a joke. His ad-libbing on every song is the same suckish thing over and over. I can't stand this cat. I'm counting down until this fifteen minutes is over. I don't know him personally obviously so this is not an attack on him personally but what I know about him already I don't like. Black people are judgemental? Nobody gives a f*** what you think Miguel! Miguel sucks in every conceivable way and anyone who likes this trash music and this phony ass persona and thinks this ass can hold a candle to Prince needs therapy. I was a Janelle Monae fan but now I hve to question her ear after hearing that he's going to be on her album. She musta lost a bet. I had to get that off my chest. The music business is doomed. Miguel is utter corn filled crap! I don't care what anyone says, he sucks and he's no Prince. Not now not ever!

booty! mad headache flip u feeling ill disbelief loser barf barf barf

I kinda liked the singles I'd heard on YT so I downloaded his last album and erased it after 3 songs... For the most part it was radio mainstream crap to my ears. The Prince comparison is gross indeed.

for "Adorn" was amazing. The album is definitely worth a couple of spins.

Wouldn't call him a no-talent, but a bit of a hack, yes. Adorn had me goin' for a hot minute, yo. Awesome tune. I still yell and scream his vocals when I hear it. lol The rest of Kaleidoscope Dream album isn't too awful, not that great either. His other singles are all decent (from his first album too). I like them. Pussy is Mine is the greatest song ever written, imo. lurking

saw him opening for Alicia Keys a few weeks back

I had no idea who he was, so this thread is only the second time I heard about him

he was boring as hell, nothing I remember about the performance

one song (no clue what it was called like) I thought had a slight Prince feeling about it, but it was STILL boring

next lol
