I don't really know much about Robin's music other than that song that had the disco 5th Of Beethoven by Walter Murphy in it (don't remember the name), but I saw this on TV yesterday. It was the first time I've heard the song at all. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I think Mayer Hawthorne's album is the type of album Robin Thicke SHOULD make. He's got it in him somewhere. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I think Thicke should be teaching a class on releasing consistently good albums, because he might be doing it better than anyone else in the last 10-12 years. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I really like Mayer's album, but it's not nearly as accessible as Robin's album.Mayer needs that one big major hit song and so far,he hasn't gotten it yet.His label still has alot of work to do.

"Ooo La La" is my favorite track.I've noticed that many other fans have said that this is their favorite song, too.
"Feel Good" and "The Good Life" are two songs that I've been listening to alot, these past few days.
"Go Stupid 4 U" is a really interesting track
"Take It Easy On Me" and "Give It 2 U" are two club bangers that were tailor-made for the dancefloor.

True, but I think Thicke now has the room to make one like Mayer has. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I dunno, I liked the type of music Mayer was making before this album. I knew his music would change once he changed labels.

Twenty years ago, Quincy Jones went on a mission. Ever since the legendary producer launched VIBE in 1993 (following a test issue in ’92), Q’s dream publication has been the cornerstone of a culture, cranking out iconic stories and snapshots, from hip-hop to soul to hollywood, fashion and politics. Now, it's time to toast and two-step.

Thanks to everyone's posts on this very thread, I picked up this album before the weekend and was jamming!! I am really impressed! The front of the album is so strong, I still don't think I heard the entire CD yet.

actually,Mayer Hawthorne is on a major label now. He's on Universal Republic/UMG.Where Does This Door Go is his second major-label release. It's frustrating that they can't seem to take his career to the next level. The new album even features several tracks produced by Pharrell. They gotta be more aggressive and release the right singles."Her favorite Song" is a nice track, but it's not the strongest choice for a first single, imo.

I actually love how Will.I.Am chopped and flipped Melle Mel's "The Message". Did you guys catch that?

I think it's the party album of the year! The first six or seven tracks are tailor-made for the dancefloor.I needed some new JAMS to enjoy and Robin really delivered.

on the track "Feel Good",which is fast becoming one of my favorite songs on the album

I know Janelle has some ways to go but I am REALLYYYYYYY happy for Janelle and Robin. They both have came a LONGGG ways and their success is well deserved.
Nice cover!!!!! Thanks for posting! [Edited 8/12/13 15:48pm]

Me too, it's a very happy party album. I always thought his albums were a bit boring, but this one was made for the dancefloor

Prince didn't influence shit on this album. Prince didn't invent a type of falsetto sound. The littler fucker just sings high

Yes!!! Robin has a knack for consistent and excellent production

I still disagree this album doesn't sound like a Prince-produced album.Prince isn't even into these types of sounds (Timbaland's distinctive electro-pop,Pharrell's minimalist funk..the disco-sounding tracks....).The only Prince influence I hear is in Robin's vocals, and only at certain times. Timberland and Pharrell have done a lot of production that sound Prince like. You guys can hate all day P has had a big influence on these two.

Se7en said: To the public, Prince has a unique but generalized sound . . . almost a caricature of what he really sounds like. . Bands that try to sound like Prince actually sound like this caricaturized sound. The Jets, Ready For The World, etc. including impersonators and those who have been influenced by his sound such as Timberlake and Thicke. . Does any one of their songs sound like a direct Prince song? No. But overall, they do have "Prince-isms" that are undeniable. . There are only a few songs that DIRECTLY sound like Prince to me. D'Angelo's "Untitled" and Natural Selection's "Do Anything" being two of the best ones.
Since 1984 I have a 100 songs that directly sounds like Prince.
