I'll save the images for next time but for now, my top album of 2013 so far is David Bowie's The Next Day. I don't have an official number two but I will sort my 2013 albums out and listen to them again to make a better list. For the record, Savages, good choice thumbs up! .

I have you to thank for that. I also have their previous album, but have not yet given it a proper listen.

I bought 5 albums this year, 4 records and 1 CD. 3 of them were albums I had already, and none of them are new music. I got all 4 records at a local record store. The first 2 are the ones that are "new" to me. The Marvin Gaye is the new 40th Anniversary deluxe CD, so it's different than the version I had before. I bought the Jermaine LP because the one I had was cracked, so I rarely played it. The Johnnie Taylor was a never opened original copy, and so was the New Birth. Right now I'm playing 2 Hall & Oates albums a lot: Along The Red Ledge and Bigger Than The Both Of Us. I've had them for years though. I've also been playing Sun Ra's Jazz In Silhouette a bit. I bought it late last year.

If I buy a old album that's new to me, that's the same thing as buying a new release album.

Bad Rabbits - American Love Cover

This is my favorite album of 2013 so far. These guys are nice. They've been on Jimmy Kimmel and their music has been featured on ESPN's First Take and are a favorite of Stephen A. Smith. These guys are a blend of funk with today's modern sounds.

Soul Alive check this album out and i'll give yours a listen.

The Stepkids, Mayer Hawthorne, Janelle Monae are among the ones I'm looking forward to hearing.

It would be too much to ask to get new albums from Maxwell, D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, and Madvillain this year. So I won't.

I just listened to samples of this album on iTunes. It's definitely soulful. I can see why someone with the username "SoulAlive" would love it. smile

I see it like that too. Actually, by the end of the year I always make the list of the best new music I've heard during the last twelve months, and I consider "new music" the music that has been new to me, whether it has been published recently or in 1965. Adding to that my eclectic musical taste, my lists always have funny combinations!

Anyway, I haven't listened to much music published in 2013 yet, but my favourite ones are Bowie's The Next Day and Vanessa Paradis' Love Songs.

There's a local record store that carries new release vinyl and used records in addition to CDs. In the used record section, there's sometimes never opened old records that are out of print otherwise. Most of the "new" ones are cutouts, but not always. The two I bought weren't. They even sell used 8-tracks and some of them are unopened as well. There's a few underground acts that release new material as 8-tracks.

The only new record I've heard this ytd is the MBV album, and I liked that very much, though I still have to go out and actually buy it.

There are releases from Fall and Scott Walker out as well, and new records from Bill Callahan and the Scud Mountain Boys(!!!) will be out shortly, so I'll probably wait until they're all released to pick them up in one swoop. I'll probably get the new Pet Shop Boys album as well.
