the clash bonds casino - new york, ny 1981

here's another thread folks can completely ignore, like the costello 1980 thread from yesterday.

again, in preparation for the rock and roll hall of fame induction ceremonies, i've pulled out some goodies to listen to, and today it's the clash from bonds casino, new york, ny june 4, 1981.

for me 1979 through 1981, the clash could do no wrong. they were in the proverbial zone, sort of like dirty mind through 1999 for prince.

i remember during that week the clash were on "the tomorrow show" with tom snyder. it was called the tomorrow show because it came on after the tonight show with johnny carson. i still have a vhs copy of the show that i video taped with 2 great performances of "the magnificent 7" and "radio clash". i'll pull that out later today for viewing.

i remember part of the interview surrounded the fact that the shows were way over sold by the promoter and the fire marshall closed down the venue and cancelled the shows (they were doing a week long stint). the clash came on the show to announce that they had added several more shows so that everyone who had a pre-purchased ticket would get to see a show. they added these shows just so their fans could get to come to a show and supposedly they did it for no extra money on their part.

I have a soundboard boot of one of those Clash Bonds shows. Superb. What a fuckin' great band they were.

I've not got any Clash bootlegs. Poor Poor Me. I did however fork out for the Clash On Broadway box set to go with my Clash and London Calling CD's. The box is superb.
