Les Nubians They're back!!!
I'm sure many have never heard of them, but they are worth checking out. It might require a translation dictionary, but the music just carries you alone. The Afopean sisters Helene and Celia Faussart made their debut in 1999 with 'Princesses Nubiennes.' If you slept on that, it's time to research and listen. I found out about them basically by word of mouth. Their mostly French language album combines African roots, jazzy nuances, hip-hop, R&B, and British soul. Recommended songs: Makeda and Tabou (remake of Sade's Sweetest Taboo) and those are just the beginning. Their next album is 'One Step Forward' is coming out on March 25th. They are currently touring, and for the bay area fans or just music lovers, they will be at Bimbo's on the 19th and 20th. A second show was added due to popular demand. I'm going to the show on the 19th. Can't wait!!! "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

They use to bump them on an urban station here in Chicago. I loved their sound. Very cool and laid back. And you're right about the music just carrying you.

A local record store got a hold of one of their promo posters and cut it up and rearranged it so the poster said "Nu Lesbians."
Yes, that is my contribution to this thread.

Les Nubians is a cool group. I wish them well.
I adore French R&B. If you're into the Les Nubian sounds, I urge you to check out another group, a sister duo called "Native." Their vibe is similar, but they're a bit more straight R&B/adult contemporary than hip hop/R&B/jazz fusion. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
