DJ Quik is legendary. One of my absolute favorite rappers and hip-hop producers of all time, he is incredibly talented and a true disciple of the funk! |

Along with Prince, my favourite artist of all time. (hence my username).
One thing that I absolutely love about Quik's music is his ear for a melodic and lush instrumentations. Mix that with some of the best bass grooves you will ever hear and you got a cocktail of dope music that only he could make.
Go through his discography. After that, google 'music produced by Dj Quik' and listen to everyone of them on Youtube. His production is truly outstanding.
For me, he is the best producer ever.

Dope song! Love the Prince shout out in the middle of it too. SOP is probably one of my favorite grooves from the purple man himself. Was this song ever a single?

He plays all the keyboards and does all the bass in the drum machine. He also does all the mixing and engineering on his records himself.
All the guitar work comes from his partner in crim Robert 'Fonksta' Bacon. Dope guitarist.

You probbly live outside of Cali. He gets bumped there a lot, but not so much elsewhere in the country. He's truy an underrated legend tho.

Quik is DEF someone to "discover" at any stage of one's musical adventures. He's done such great production work for others and does bomb joints on himself. There's tons of production work that he's done where he ain't even credited, but if you know him you hear him nonetheless.
In many ways he'd the ultimate OG West oastdude. He was around at the very beginning of the WC scene and for better or worse, helped form the whole G-Funk era. Check out his Underground/Red Tapes and realize that these came out in 1987!!
I came to him via his collabs w/ El DeBarge. They've done tons of work together both in the studio and on stage. Quik almost certainly will have a presence on El's upcoming album which is supposed to come out late 2013 or early 2014. Watch this space!!!

If you wanna see just how true to the funk game Quik is, you gotta check out this vid that someone did of a Soul Train line, but to his music. The original song the daners are jamming to is "Jungle Boogie". The Quik song that replaced it is "Time Iz Money" mostly performed by Big Sike. Funny thing is that Q's stuff is so funky it coulda been made in the 70s IMHO.

DJ Quik's production on "Heartz Of Men" by 2pac is deadly funky! This joint is perfect for hardcore hip hop, soul, funk, jazz etc. The melody and rhythm is very much part of G-Funk and P-Funk in a way. Quik has never gotten the props he deserves and along with Shock G are great musicans that just happen to rap and I think that's why they have not been properly recognized. Dr. Dre may be the Quincy Jones of Hip-Hop, but in terms of musical acumen and natural talent, Quik is the MAN. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR
