Yes, I also thought that was a funny and clever way to handle the question. Why do reporters think they can ask that? Cause you know if Janelle says "in a relationship", the next question would be "with who?" I don't blame her at all for wanting to keep that private.

that would have been the second question absolutely by the way from another recent interview with a journalist that was at one listening session of the record :they really want to know who she is with
Is she nervous about letting people see any more of her than this fictional representation of herself? “Am I nervous?” she says, scrunch-browed and incredulous. “I’m not scared of human beings. I think I just… I do things on my own. You have a right to go to work and reveal what you want to reveal about yourself, and that’s the same approach that I take.” The difference being, of course, that going to work for Janelle Monáe is rather more interesting than it is for most Average Joebodys. One of the evils of being a pop star is that those people want to get that little bit closer to the artist. “It’s important to have boundaries with the public because everybody’s intentions are not always out of love and in your best interest. So you have to protect yourself and your family and your privacy from those who have no respect for it. Some things can become a bigger focus than your music if you put it out there. I try to make sure I stay on-message and draw attention to the things that I feel are more beneficial.”
Well, now that she’s a success in the public eye and a critical darling, people just want to know more about her life. Where she came from, what she likes, who she likes, maybe who she loves. But, as delightfully and professionally as she has done all morning, she rebuffs the thought. “They know the right things. They know the most important things.”
Is it enjoyable to have that control? “I’m an artist. My job is to start dialogue. And when you hear ‘The Electric Lady’, it will be thought-provoking music that deals with sexuality, that deals with religion, that deals with rebellion, that deals with love.” There’s a small pause, to allow me to digest, before she says with total finality, “So there you go.” Which seems to be her way of saying, “That’s all you’re getting out of me.” All the statuesque statements of artistic credibility wouldn’t work unless there was something to back it up. Fortunately, as she becomes one of the world’s most important pop artists, Janelle Monáe continues to back up her quirks, her insecurities and her maniacal desire for creative control. ‘The Electric Lady’ is proof that a singular vision is enough to create an artistic legacy to rival the greats. Two albums in and, so far, not a step out of place. We might never get to know the Janelle Monáe, but as long as she’s so firmly in control of her art, we’ll only ever see what she wants us to.

apparently goodie mob shot a video for special education the other day but don't know if Janelle will be in the video or her little mini-me lol
this happened on twitter:
Yes she's adorable. "@CeeLoGreen: Me and Lil @JanelleMonae for the @GoodieMobMusic #SpecialEducation video http:// say.ly/SoN6lTk " [Edited 7/28/13 3:55am]

Yeah, I saw that too. I am guessing Janelle won't be in the video - which would be too bad (even though that little girl is adorable). I think they are still in Atlanta trying to get "Electric Lady" finished and turned in. I got this reply from @Wondaland about 10 days ago. (By the way, the recent problems Serpan has had with 3EG and Prince have really made me appreciate how well Janelle and her team treat their fans!)Are you Italian, by the way? I lived in Italy for 11 years (Perugia).

Yes I'm Italian.. I live in Genoa( north Italy) don't know where she is now but I can't wait to see the next video with miguel... but I think they will release it in August right before the album.. about serpan and all the mess yes I agree with U I feel sorry about how he was treated...anyway Jane and Wondaland are amazing with fans..always very nice..plus I saw a video some months ago of her speaking about her fandroids and she called them my fan-mily because (she said) we are on this journey together ( about her career) and about having her music downloaded illegally she said that her first goal as an artist is to reach people with her music, to make people feel better and it could happen that sometimes people really don't have money to buy music so she understands ..love her even though I always bought her cds because she is a true artist and she deserves to be supported

I also bought Janelle's CDs, even though I already was listening to the music for free. Same reason. Do you have the link to that video, by the way? I'd love to watch it.I have been to Genoa - it's a beautiful port town. Oh, I miss Italy! I used to teach ESL there - I wish my students had learned English as well as you (.. or are you a native speaker?) Are you on Twitter? If you want, follow me. I always like to add positive people, with good taste in music

Some quotes from her:
-There was a lot of confusion and nonsense where I grew up, so I reacted by creating my own little world … I began to see how music could change lives, and I began to dream about a world where every day was like anime and Broadway, where music fell from the sky and anything could happen.
-I have lived and been through a lot and I challenge myself all the time to change for the better.

I like it. I like it. This is a far better duet than Alicia Keys/Maxwell (contrived as hell). Better than Miguel/Mariah's "Beautiful" too. I hope this song gives her the momentum she needs going into her release date.
