An amazing vocal. Hopefully Gold Legion will reissue her entire Atlantic catalogue.

I wouldn't go as far as to call her great. She was ok - but not a great. Whitney Houston was great. Branigan was nowhere near the level of Whitney.

Laura Branigan was a great singer/vocalist. Ever bit as good as Whitney Houston. If you listen to all of her albums, beyond her hit singles, you'd know it to be true.

Big & loud does not equal great. And can you explain the difference between singer & vocalist since you say she was both. Cause to me they are the same thing.

Why drag Nippy into this? Nippy's greatness is subjective. She was a very fine singer in the beginning but you have to admit, the last 10 years of Nippy's career, she sounded like Kermit the Frog. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Well yeah it's all subjective. IMHO Whitney Houston at her best was a better singer than Laura Branigan at her best. Not saying Branigan wasn't a good singer - I just wouldn't call her great. Great is thrown around too easily. Like genius is tossed off too easily.

Laura was very very underrated, she was there at a time where to me you had two of the best female voices in music, Pat Benatar and Ann Wilson in the pop/rock field. I cant really compare her with a Whitney because Laura was really not known to be a ballad heavy artist, though that was something she did on the albums it was often not the singles that were released. "How Am I supposed to live without you" was one of the ballad hits and then to me she has the second best version of "The Power of Love" (folks forget she charted with it also) her version to me is second to the BEST version which is ironically done by a man "of course different wording" and that is AIR SUPPLY, of course it came when they were starting to fall out of favor with radio, but Russells voice blew every version of this song away, Celine wasnt even in the park on that one.
As for Laura i cant really compare her with Whitney ballad wise, different styles and times, LAURA was a much better vocalist though than she is credited for, though to me not as good as Pat or Ann who are the two best in pop rock.
