My favorite 60s bee gees song - Words

"Smile, an everlasting smile
a smile can bring you near to me
don't ever let me find you gone
because that would bring a tear to me

this world has lost it's glory
lets start a brand new story
now, my love

right now, there'll be no other time
and I can show you how, my love

talk in everlasting words
and dedicate them all to me
and I will give you all life
I'm here if you should call to me

and you think
that I don't even mean
a single word I say
it's only Words
and words are all I have
to take your heart away"

I like the music of "Staying Alive", but that song just got SO PLAYED TO DEATH back in the day! That song, & "Celebration" by Kool & The Gang & "Le Freak" by Chic..

I simply cannot listen to or dance to those 3 songs..
ANYMORE.
(okay, well.. MAYBE "Staying Alive if I'm DRUNK OFF MY ASS..)

Other Bee Gees standards:

You Should Be Dancing

Night Fever

Jive Talkin'

How Deep Is Your Love
(which I've done at karaoke)
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

my favorite 70s Bee Gees song

This is harder to choose - I grew up in the 70s listening to the Bee Gees. So many to choose from

Lonely Days

How Can You Mend a Broken Heart

"And how can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can you stop the sun from shining?
What makes the world go round?
How can you mend a this broken man?
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again."

Jive Talkin

Nights on Broadway (their stalker song)

"Here we are, in a room full of strangers
Standing in the dark, where your eyes cannot see me
well I had to follow you
though you did not want me to
but that won't stop my loving you
I can't stay away

...

I will wait,
even if it takes forever;
I will wait,
even if it takes a life time.
Somehow I feel inside
You never ever left my side.
Make it like it was before
Even if it takes a life time, takes a life time."

You Should Be Dancing

"She's juicy and she's trouble
She gets it to me good
My woman gives me power
Goes right down to my blood
"

How Deep is Your Love

"I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You're the light in my deepest darkest hour
You're my saviour when I fall
"

Stayin' Alive (one of the best singles ever by anyone)

Night Fever

More Than a Woman

"There are stories old and true
of people so in love like you and me
and I can see myself
let history repeat itself.

Reflecting how I feel for you
thinking about those people then
I know that in a thousand years
I'd fall in love with you again.

This is the only way that we should fly
this is the only way to go
and if I lose you I know I would die.
"

Love You Inside Out (the forgotten #1)
Too Much Heaven
Tragedy

But even with all of these massive hits (9 #1s in this list), I think my favorite bee gees song from the 70s is Spirits (Having Flown) - I can't listen to this one without hitting the repeat button.

"I never fell in love so easily
Where the four winds blow I carry on
I'd like to take you where my spirit flys
Through the empty skys
We go alone never before having flown
Faster than light'ning is this heart of mine
In the face of time I carry on
I'd like to take you where my rainbow ends
Be my lover friend
We go alone never before having flown

I am your hurricane
Your fire in the sun
how long must I live in the air
you are my paradise
My angel on the run
How long must I wait
It's the dawn of the feeling
that starts from the moment you're there

You'll never know what you have done for me
You broke all those rules I live upon
I'd like to take you to my shangrila
neither here or far away from home
never before having flown
There I'd like to take you where my spirit flys
Through the empty skys we go alone
Never before having flown
"

Hmmm...I wonder why nobody chose the song "Children Of The World"? It's the title track of their 1976 album. It's a GREAT song, mellow and catchy with gorgeous harmonies...

"Ah..a...ha..ha...we are Children of the world...watching everyday go by..."

Whenever I listen to this album,I play this particular song over and over.

Other great songs that should have made your lists...

"Love You Inside Out"(1979)
"Living Together"(1979)
"Search,Find"(1979)

Oh hell, just choose the whole 'Spirits Having Flown' album wink

High five for everybody who mentioned "Love You Inside and Out." Everytime I look at this thread, I feel like pulling out The Greatest Hits and play all night.

have to add a song to my list of favorite Bee Gees songs from the 70s - Desire - even though it't technically not a Bee Gees song, it more a Bee Gees with Andy Gibb part of the group than an Andy Gibb solo song. I can only think of two other Andy Gibb songs that fit this description, both of which were completed after his death. Man On Fire, which was in progress and the Bee Gees finished, and Our Love (Don't Throw It All Away) from One Night Live.
