I can't stand that fake ass Vanilla Ice. Macklemore makes Flo Rida seem legit. And that song is pretentious as hell.

^ That awkward moment when Macklemore doesn't pretend to be gangster yet is called a fake Vanilla Ice lol

And he actually writes lyrics with meaning versus songs about ice and trains lol lol lol

-----Because it is not Hip Hop. In fact he is not even rapping. He is just talking without a flow. The music industry destroyed hip hop by signing people like this guy and Drake.

1. He's not signed
2. Plenty of people sing-talk and rap-talk
3. I'd rather have someone who makes decent music and lyrics than someone who has a decent to great flow and makes homophobic, islamophobic, racist, sexist, and just generally awful lyrics with just a repeated drum loop as the backing music

Exactly he is an independent artist that managed to make it big i hope more can do the same wink

People here on the org are going to hate because they haven't listened to his rapper and they just see him as a ''watered down white rapper'' i really wish the org would actually check out peoples albums and see the different sides of them before making a general statement of how much they hate him.

1. Let's hope he stays unsigned.

2. Those people should not rap-talk they should just rap.
3. Not all Hip hop is racist or homophobic and the lyrics in hip-hop are not any worst then anything you hear in pop music. You have got to have flow.

Macklemore has a major distribution deal with Warner Music. He may own his own copyrights, but he isn't doing his own marketing and promotion. He's only "independent" for show.

Anyway, that song still sucks.

-----Hip hop had lyrics that had lyrics that were dealing with social issues back to The Message& Public Enemy and today you have independent rap groups that still deal with social issues. At the same time you have booty and party songs. So what people party and dance to music always will be there. This dude has no flow and the music sucks.

hmph! I more offended that the song sucks.

That song should end with this caption:

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I think it's important to note regarding this song that had Macklemore been gay, not only would we have not heard this song we probably would never had heard of him as an artist. Gay artists are still excluded from music and mainstream; and the only time gay rights is allowed is when a STRAIGHT person is speaking about it...

The song is 16 on the billboard charts and 2 on the rap charts right now. I never though this song would become as big as it is. The first U.S. top 40 hit to ever celebrate gay marriage.

Charts ain't shit. Charts have never been an indicator of whats really hot, ESPECIALLY IN HIP-HOP.

Dude is an alright rapper. He's mediocre. He doesn't suck but he's not great either. I believe he is as popular as he is because he is a politically correct white liberal and at this time in history, political correctness is very important for mainstream societal acceptance. He's saying all of the right things, therefore people like him. Plus, he's white and America is pining for a new white rapper that they can crown "king of rap" as they did with Eminem. Macklemore is safe, therefore he is marketable.

His next song will probably be a rap version of kum-by-ya. lol

I didn't post the charts has an indication of how good a song it is. I did it to show how far politically the U.S. has come. 15 years if someone said a song supporting gay marriage would reach the top 5 on the rap charts they'd say your crazy. This song is a very big milestone for U.S. chart history.

Not really.

That is just how you see it because of the subject matter of the song. It really sounds like a PSA. If anything its a marker of how politically correct the music industry has become. Its a song that falls in line with the tone of society at this moment, which is what many songs do in their respective eras.

Truth of the matter is that homosexuality is no longer controversial in this day and age. This song's place in the charts seems more like an effort to solidify a mindset via popularity. That's all fine and good. No problems here wih it but it says more about who the song is popular with and who is paying for the promotion of the song than anything else.

Now if I went to the clubs and the popular hip-hop spots, sites, etc. and this was the song on everybody's lips, I would be typing something completely different. Its not. Everybody knows how charts work and that corporate entities like Sony buy these chart positions, so they don't really mean much.

Its a good thing that a song like this can attain any popularity at all without being crucified. Still, chart popularity is a lie, since companies can "invest" in these chart positions, therefore the data can be screwed with.

I share in your giving the song props for existing but I don't agree that this is what's hot in hip-hop.
