White Men Kings of the R&B Charts? Justin Timberlink is holding on to the the #1 spot on the Billboard R&B Albums charts and Robin Thicke is planted in the #1 spot on the R&B Singles charts. Has that ever happened before? "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I could be wrong but I don't think he held the number one spot on both the Albums & Singles chart at the same time on the R&B side. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Faith and "One More Try" were #1 on the R&B charts 25 years ago this week. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Oh, okay. I wasn't sure but I knew both were #1 R&B but I wasn't sure whether it was at the same time or not. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Who cares what color they are?

So much for 'post racial' America.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Obviously, a lot of people still care about color. Have you been to the policial section to read about the black woman who applied for over 300 jobs and couldn't get anyone to give her the time of day until she decided to apply as a white woman and then she was inundated with responses from employers? There ain't no such thing as post racial america and never will be. That only exist in fairytale land. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Okay let me phrase it a different way? Why do YOU care what color they are?
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
I don't give a rat's behind what color they are. I was just pointing out a FACT that two white guys are topping the R&B charts, it was unusual and asking has that ever happened before? Why is it when someone points out Joe Blow is the first black woman/man to do such-and-such it's fine but when it's the opposite, someone wants to twist it into something racial? Justin and Robin are white, right? They aren't Plaid. So exactly what was wrong with what I said? "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Dude calm down. It's not that serious. I asked because I don't tend to think of people in terms of race. I don't think of R&B as black charts and pop as white charts. Black people sit atop the pop charts and no one asks: black men kings of the pop charts?

I'm cool. It just came across that perhaps you were insinuating that I was taking issue with white men topping R&B charts. It's good that you don't think of people in terms of race. You are in the minority. So many people claim that they don't see others in terms of race/sex/orientation/etc, but often times, their actions speak differently. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! Why even start this thread? it is just going to turn into another fucking org discussion about race. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

music CAN be color-blind.... I just wish the rest of society could be too

I'm black but don't care if the #1 album/single on the R&B charts is by a black artists or white. Why does it matter?
If the music is good that all I care for. If it sucks it sucks... if its good its good. That's all that really matters...

Pop is every type of music form. It'a no secret that R&B is geared toward the black crowd and rock towards the white crowd. Is that wrong to say because we all know it's the truth? PRINCE: Always and Forever

Apparently Billboard does, because in the 1980's the R&B chart was called "Hot Black Singles" & "Top Black Albums". Even today Billboard has "Hot Latin Songs", "Latin Pop Songs" & "Top Latin Albums". There's a Latin Grammys as well. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Why are people so sensitive about saying the words like black and white? There are white, black yellow and green people.Thicke and Justin are doing blue eyed soul. Blue eyed soul is when white singer sings rnb based music.Black people always ruled in the rnb, funk genres.Never ever will white people be better inagenres of music where you have amazing legends like Luther Vandeross, Teddy Pendergrass, Al Green and so many other.of course there are exceptions like Teena Marie

And black people invented rock music.too bad they left it white people. I wonder why, maybe because rock involved in a slower less dancable sound during the sixties, at the same time Barry Gordy made a big sucess with his Motor city based company Motown .

Music from non-western countries is called "world music", which to me makes it sounds like it's some kind of "exotic third world" music that is marketed to yuppies or less important. I've never understood the term "world music" (or "third world" for that matter) as all music on earth is made in the world. The media will make a big deal about it if Paul Simon or Peter Gabriel records it, and their songs got played on the radio, and get awards. But the performers who make the music as a living don't get the same kind of attention. It's like people in non-English countries will listen to music from the USA, even if they don't know the language, and some songs will become hits in their country. But songs not in English rarely became hits in the US. It's kinda odd that old R&B/soul/funk records get more attention in Japan than in the US, and are out of print and many have never been on CD, and you have to buy an import. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Music can be (and should be) color blind. But, the music industry will never allow it. As long as all of these categories exists (especially those meant to seperate and marketed by race), music will always have a color. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley
