Rufus/Chicago ~ Street Player

Street Player was written by the drummer from Chicago (Danny Seraphine) and keybordist for Rufus (David "Hawk" Wolinski). Rufus recorded it 1st and released it on their 1978 LP Street Player. Chicago released theirs on 1979's Chicago 13. Danny mentions in his autobiography that the song was not a hit when Chicago released it as a single, but that he made a lot of money from it decades later on when it was sampled by Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez and Pitbull and their songs became really popular.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
