Bruno Mars at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ: July 1, 2013
Last night Bruno tore down the house yet again for his sixth show of the Moonshine Jungle Tour US leg. Since I saw them a week ago in Philadelphia, they have improved so much. Bruno and the band seem a lot more relaxed and like they’re definitely getting into their groove. It’s safe to say that by the time the summer’s up, this tour will be completely flawless, as if it isn’t already.
My review from the June 24th show basically covers all the itty bitty details I love about the show (http://taytripper612.tumb...ine-jungle). All those things hold true for last night’s show and then some. Bruno’s vocals were fucking killer last night. There’s nothing I can do but sit back in pure amazement that he can perform at such a high caliber night after night. The people behind me, two men might I add, were constantly saying how amazing he was just to give you an idea.
It’s hard to highlight specific parts of the show because it’s all so incredible, but I’ll try my best. The intro got me again, it’s just the coolest thing. Show Me/Our First Time was the sexiest thing I have ever seen on a stage, and now I’ve seen it twice. Phil is awesome at ad-libbing as he showed us during the pickup line interlude. He came up with a poem that rhymed with the girl’s name and it was hilarious. Nothin’ On You was awesome. I love this song and it has a special place in my heart. I remember when I first heard it and became obsessed with it in 2010, so to hear it live now in 2013 as a true Hooligan was awesome. I love the beginning part and his vocals are so smooth.
Grenade is possibly one of my favorite live arrangements of this tour. John’s piano solo in the beginning is amazing (I took a video this time) and an awesome way to start the song. The lights add so much effect and are visually the coolest thing I’ve ever seen an artist do. Just the Way You Are seemed particularly emotional last night. Bruno was really enjoying the audience and had his earpiece out for a lot of the song and was grinning from ear to ear.
The encore was just killer again. Bruno wore a hat for the first time this tour! I love watching Bruno do the pre-Locked Out Of Heaven drum solo because he gets so into it. I just now am realizing that he uses the “Fellas I’m ready to get up and do my thang" from James Brown’s song Sex Machine during the solo. That’s awesome. LOOH was amazing and energetic and I just love the confetti and how it makes the arena look. Gorilla. I will forever be in love with this song and his performance of it. He got down on his knees for the falsetto which just kills me. I’m still amazed how he hits those notes with ease. When the lift lowered down it didn’t seem like Bruno wanted to leave. He just kept singing and jumping up and down. So much energy and such an awesome finale.
A sidenote on seats… The night before the show and up until about 7:00 there were still seats available for the show on ticketmaster: ones way better than what I got the minute they went on sale. After Ellie Goulding left the stage and showtime got closer and closer, I was still noticing seats that weren’t filled, despite the fact that the show was “sold out." So about 10 minutes before Bruno took the stage I ditched my seats for better ones and it was a good decision because nobody bothered us about doing it and I had a much better view. I’m not encouraging everyone to do this because security might be different at all the venues, but keep it in mind.
It was amazing to experience the Moonshine Jungle twice. I have so many memories to keep with me for the rest of my life from these two nights. Bruno Mars is an incredible artist and musician and I love him and everything he does for music. The world is very lucky that we get to see him share his talent with us. The show put on for this tour is flat out incredible. Period. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Bruno Mars is the most talented performer and musician I have and may ever encounter. There’s nobody out there doing what he does. I can’t wait until I get to see Bruno live again, no matter how long it takes. Thank you Bruno.
