Pet Shop Boys- Please Album

You know i have revisited the boys debut album recently and i am LOVING it more and more each time i listen to it.

i used to say it was my least favorite cause i like the ''darker'' PSB but this album is pretty dark! not only that but it's a mix of dark and some really beautiful songs as well and the synths... eek fuck so damn good.

It has taken me awhile but this album is actually pretty freaking great and i think i love just about every track!

Two Divided by zero is a banging opener.. the singles pssh WEG, Opportunities, LCQ and Suburbia are perfect singles.

I Want A Lover has an epic synth rift and Tonight Is Forever is beautiful!

Why Can't We live Together and the harmonica breakdown is my favorite on the album.

IMO, the first few psb albums just got better and better, a lot like prince's trajectory. They came on strong but got more and more sophisticated, up to Very. I love it when you can be witness to that kind of artistic growth. I think Bilingual might be the sort of "dividing line" between that first golden era and the 2nd wave, which also has many many high points.

No real point to this comment other than that I find it interesting that in spite of the big success of Please, they didn't suffer the typical "sophomore slump." Again, just my opinion.. And honestly, it took me a long while to appreciate Actually. (Got it when it was released and I just hated it for the longest time...)

When I first listened to it I wasn't a big fan mostly because it sounds so amateur compared to Actually (except for West End Girls). I LOVE Please now. I think vocally it's probably Neil's best (or tied with Behaviour).

I'd rank the tracks:

1. West End Girls (It doesn't get better than this. Gave me chills when I first heard it and still does)

2. Opportunities (That piano piece on the chorus is just love )

3. Later Tonight (Very different from everything else they've done)

4. Why Don't We Live Together? (Neil's voice is just love . And so are the synths)

5. Love Comes Quickly (Another great vocal delivery from Neil)

6. Tonight Is Forever

7. Two Divided By Zero

8. Violence

9. I Want A Lover

10. Suburbia (I prefer the remix. The original is a lot less interesting)

The remix AKA the music video version? yrah it shows more of the political undertones and the piano is better cool

I agree with this very much smile

Please & Acutally both... i mean i loved Actually but didn't get the hype on first few listens now LOVE IT.

Same with Please... and i like Billingual but i see it more as a ''fun'' album more than a serious work.

Actually and Nightlife are the only albums by them that I loved every track on the first listen. The others were were growers for many tracks.

The Pet Shop Boys.

Biggest mystery in pop music.

A lead 'singer' who can't sing, virtually talks his lyrics....mainly drones. Old man when he first came on the scene. 'West End Girls' I could create on my PSR90 Yamaha keyboard.

Artists who can't dance or perform in any way...hence their lavish back up performers in concert.

His partner a stony-faced pusher of buttons to trigger their computer generated hooks.

Sustained by their fellow homosexual fan-boys.

Good job if you can get it.

If someone doesn't like an artist why do they come into a thread to bitch about them? lol

If you do not like pSB move onto to another forum and stay happy.

Doesn't that happen all the time here? Or at least when Beyonce, Madonna, Whitney Houston, or The Jackson family is the topic. Then there's those constant "today's music sucks" threads. lol And folks wonder why some people stop coming to this site.

Oh, Manchester last night?

The dancers and special effects certainly were amazing! Check out the YouTube clips...and good luck spotting Tennant & Co. even NEARLY.

'In Suburbia' is a VERY good nursery rhyme though...I'll give you that.

Can't even use the word 'homosexual' anymore without people calling you 'homophobic!!' (a ridiculous word not in my vocabulary anyway)...so can't be shamed that way...feel free to try again though.

So when I said 'homosexual fan-boys' I was entirely accurate.

Anything else?

Being from the UK and actually having met Tennant, I'm more informed than most of you.

He couldn't care less what I think. Why do you?

Yeah, but in general, trolls and some of the music snobs just say negative things just to get people to respond to them and argue for no reason. These people never start threads on things they do like, they just go into threads to spout negativity. The same amount of time spent on putting a performer down, can be used on discussing things they're interested in. People click on Youtube videos just to say they don't like them, give them a thumbs down, or to insult the act and/or fans of the performer. Like people arguing about David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar or Phil Collins/Peter Gabriel. It's not that serious. I don't look at threads or videos of people I'm not interested in. It's not difficult to do at all. lol

.

Anybody can be a bully on a computer, but most of them wouldn't say the same thing to the person to their face (especially when the bully is a child talking to an adult), and don't even know who they're talking to. I read of a case where 2 people were arguing in a chat room. One of them found out where the other one lived and shot him, and the shooter lived in a different state.

I must say that, as much as I like Please, it's not among my favourite PSB albums. I'd choose Actually, Behaviour and Fundamental. During these last years, they're doing music that rank side by side with their best stuff, in my opinion. Looking forward to their new album.

Oh yeah for sure Behavior will always be my favorite! Neil was just on top of his writing then.

Rent (This song just sounds so dark and brooding i love it! the video is great to)

It Couldn't Happen Here( One of the best voal performances from Neil)

Heart (This song has such an interesting sound! the video is wicked as well)

Hit Music (A banger smile )

What Have I Done To Deserve This (One of the songs that got me into the boys

One More Chance ( Great intro song with lots of interesting instrumentals going on)

It's A Sin(Good song.. but i just never got into it like the other tracks)

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

thumbs up! Great list

1. Heart (Love everything about it especially the distorted Neil and Pavarotti vocal loop)

2. King's Cross (Another track that is just too good. Definetly my favorite ballad by them)

3. What Have I Done To Deserve This? (Love the R&B feel to it and great vocals from Dusty)

4. I Want To Wake Up (Very dark with great synths)

5. Rent

6. Hit Music

7. It Couldn't Happen Here

8. One More Chance

9. Shopping (I hate the robotic S H O P P I N G lol )

10. It's A Sin (WAY to much focus on production. The demo version is a lot better. Really puts more emphasis on the lyrics and the music itself)
