Sam Harris Appreciation!

Do you all remember Sam Harris? He won Star Search week after week in the 80s and was known for his rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, that might even give Patti a run for her money. Sam Harris could seriously sing his ass off. His minor hit was Sugar Don't Bite, which I just learned Madonna's songwriters may have "borrowed" from on Papa Don't Preach. The chorus sounds very similar but Sam's was first. Anyone like him here? I just got his first album and I love it. Pure dance pop and a couple of nice ballads thrown in. I'm also noticing how much Adam Lambert sounds like him. They have very similar vocal stylings. cool Where is Sam now?

I remember Sugar Don't Bite and Over The Rainbow, but I don't think I've heard any of his other songs, or if I did, don't remember them. I think I saw Sam on Showtime At The Apollo once. Last I heard he was doing Broadway. I used to think Donny Osmond could sing Sugar Don't Bite.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Suprisingly his albums are on Itunes. How is the 2nd one? I may work my way up to getting it eventually. Right now, I'm all about the first one. That shit is slamming! I want to choreograph Jazz dance routine to it for my class. I love 80s dance pop so much!!

Really? Ok I seriously need to give it a listen. Who do you think has a more powerful voice? Sam Harris or Adam Lambert? I love Glambert but now that i've been listening more to Sam, I think his voice might be stronger. He sounds like he can do anything vocally.

I used to love Sam doing Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

I never had his albums, but I remember him from Star Search. He's very talented.

Sam Harris was a phenomenon of my youth...his winning streak was legendary on Star Search. It's too bad that his voice never paired up with the right song.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

What a shame on such a talented singer. The right songs should have sent his career into the stratosphere. He could have been another George Michael.

LOVEd Sam Harris! Even was a charter member of his fan club back in the day. His first two albums are fantastic and I have them both on cd. Then after he went all showtunes and Broadway and I lost interest. He still has a great voice though!

I got the remasters of his Motown albums on iTunes and have een pleading for a cd release but it's not going to happen according to "Sam's web guy" sad

Just like the white winged dove...

I checked out the 2nd album on itunes. It seems really ballad heavy to me. I think I prefer the first album. More dance pop jamz on there.
