There's always been a hoo-haa when it comes to musicians using sampling. Some are appreciated and others are derided, the latest one being Will.i.am and Chris Brown's "Let's Go" which came under intense backlash. On the other hand, we have artists like Pretty Lights who's "Finally Moving" did full justice to the sample. And he's gone on to make some good originals as well, with "Around the Block" coming at the top of my mind.

What's your take on sampling used by artists. Do artists really justify the original using this technique or should they stick to producing original compositions..

Personlly.................I wish it NEVER existed.

I prefer a sampling artist to one that just plays covers (and there are a tonne of those).

Technically, sampling has always existed, even before there were sampling machines.

Young-Holt Unlimited/Soulful Strut = Barbara Acklin/Am I The Same Girl (literally in this case. It's the same exact recording with the vocals removed and a piano added.)

James Brown/Hot = David Bowie/Fame

Mainly because thats a sound that JB perfected that (IMO) has never been bettered..

The kind of grooves that are undeniable & that you can happily hear looping for 5 mins.
