hmmm Tough question...

Lots of great candidates, including the two already mentioned, "Off On Your Own (Girl)," "Right Now," his cover of "Killing Me Softly," "Missunderstanding," but I think I might have to go with this one:

The entire Night & Day album is classic but my fave tracks are Night & Day, Off on your own, Rescue me, If i'm not your lover and I love his version of Killing me softly, way more than Lauren Hill's!

That bright skinned unibrow mofo wrecked my game back in the 80s, what with my dark skin and clearly distinguishable separate brows. But he's still my dude! A little something from his latest album

1 over Jordan...the greatest since

Yes, it's on the album of the same name, published in 1993. An excellent song. Bowie got some criticism for working with him, but many thought the song was brilliant; so do I.

highfive It's the backing vocals that put it over the top for me. Tabitha Brace and company did their thing!

Wow! Thanks Alex. I haven't heard that remix in years. Never knew of Tabitha Brace. Al should really look at producing more. I believe he had a good producer's ear. For him to thrive in the era of Teddy Riley's New Jack Swing domination was quite an accomplishment back then. Teddy's stuff had saturated R&B radio but then there was Al. He had his own flavor.

You're welcome. Tabitha later contributed backing vocals to Mary J. Blige's first two hits, "You Remind Me" and "Real Love." I agree about Al... he's not the greatest singer, but as a total package it's easy to see why he was named a Sony Innovator all those years ago.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
