fans of old JACKSONS records: clear some things up for me...

.

Found copies of The Jacksons & Triumph for super cheap today. No Q's about the former - Enjoy Yourself, Show You the Way To Go headbang - but the latter has me trippin...

  • A song that I could SWEAR was called "Heartbreak Hotel" all these years (I had the album when I was a kid) is listed as "This Place Hotel" whofarted confuse Am I nutty or was this always the title of this song?

  • "Everybody" w/ lyrics like...

Oh, everybody, get down on the floor
I love the way you shake your thing...

... sounds ridiculously close (in the hook anyway) to "Get On the Floor" on the Off the Wall album...

So get on the floor and dance with me
I love the way you shake your thing, especially...

The tempos are similar, both start out w/ blaring horns confused "Everybody" is written by MJ, Tito & Mike McKinney, while "Get On the Floor" is written by MJ & Louis Jackson - did Tito & Mike get jipped just a little bit?? :O

  • Time Waits for No One still sounds good lol

Thanks for any info smile

NOTE: Maxxx, if you come up in here talkin' some King of Pop shit, I'm calling the police!! no no no!
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

They sing Heartbreak Hotel & that´s the original
title off that.I think they just named it This place hotel so it would´nt B confused with the Elvis Presley
song.I´ve always called it heartbreak hotel 2.
Such a great song & production.

Yeah,I have always wondered why they changed the title from "Heartbreak Hotel" to "This Place Hotel".So they didn't want people to confuse it with the Elvis Presley song? But there are MANY songs by different artists with the same titles.

In Quincy Jones' biography,he claims that, everytime Michael came out with a big album, the brothers would immediately try to "follow it up" with an album of their own...lol...after 'Off The Wall',the brothers quickly released 'Triumph'...after 'Thriller',the brothers released 'Victory'...after 'Bad',the brothers released '2300 Jackson Street'.For awhile there,it looked like they were waiting for MJ to hurry up and finish his album,so they could release theirs...lol...or possibly ride on the coattails of his success??

But,since MJ's albums were such big sellers,it's obvious that the brothers borrowed ALOT of the same ideas that he used on his albums. That's why "Everybody" sounds suspiciously like "Get On The Floor".

I always thought that Get On The Floor and Everybody sounded just alike. I prefer Everybody, though. That's a jam. The whole album is. My favorite cut is Your Ways. Makes me wanna cry.

King of Pop time: Sony then CBS forced MJ to change the title not to be confussed with Elvis's Song even though folks who bought it never got the two mixed up.the trip out thing:is that Sony still has it as "this Place Hotel" but Whitney Houston had a Hit Song with the title "Heartbreak hotel" A few years back&no static over that? go figure? Before "Thriller" blew up MJ was quite Prolific at realeasing a Album a Year.from 76-82 on Epic/CBS now Sony MJ had at least One Album out be it in a Group or Solo Setting.Mike used the Same Seashore Horn Players that were on "Get on the Floor" for "Everybody" as well.Greg Philigahnis(Misspelled) played on both Triumph&Off the Wall.

underrated MJ jam, probably because it is a Jacksons track & not a solo MJ hit.

This may shock y'all, but I don't own ANY of the Jacksons albums. All I have is the "Greatest Hits" album from the 70s! I guess I'll have to do some CD shopping real soon. But I'm gonna stay away from the 1984 'Victory' album.Hearing Michael and Mick Jagger team up on "State Of Shock" is NOT something I wanna go back to...lol...

Davideye,

Yeah, it's probably a good idea to avoid the Victory album altogether. What a disappointment that was...

But definitely get Triumph and Destiny, they're great.
