Jennifer Lopez: ''women have taken over the music industry''

Jennifer Lopez believes ''women have taken over the music industry''.
The 'Live it Up' hitmaker insists she's been in the trade for so long that she's definitely ''here to stay'' and that a lot of male artists aren't doing as well because females have been breaking the industry for over 20 years.

Speaking in an interview with Stylist magazine, she said:[B]''Women have taken over the music industry - when you think of all the female artists who are out.[B]
''Even going back 20 years, back to Cher, Gloria Estefan and that whole time with Mariah Carey and Celine Dion and then the next wave which was me and then Britney [Spears] and Beyonce to what's continued to now Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

''With all these people there have been a few guys - but we have really had it on lock for a bit.''

The brunette beauty claims she didn't feel the pressure to jump straight back into work when she gave birth to her five-year-old twins, Emme and Max - whom she has with ex-husband Marc Anthony - because she had waited so long to start a family.
She explained: ''I didn't think about that too much because I had waited so long to have babies and was so happy to be pregnant and to give birth to children that I was really consumed with that for a couple of years. It took a good two years before I really got back on my feet and could concentrate on my career again.''

well, j-lo may well be referring to the women in the music business as entertainers only. in reality it seems she has not lifted her head above the water long enough to view the list of top music industry executives.

fish

take a look see: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...executives

>>>>>>>>>>^^^^^^^^^^

here you will see the list of the top executives of the industry. bet your last note and the tone of the bass cleft and you will see that it is

Case Study - Music Retailer | akuna<<<<< a dominant (male) base cleft that rules the list.

the list of the execs is a total of 349. out of the total less than 5% are women. so maybe j-lo should have said it a little different. unless she's been added to this current list, she's just like all the other pawns on the dancing & singing board.

her and most all of the female music related entertainers are ruled over by music industry full of male executives. they in most cases, if not all make the final music directions decisions as to how they want to work the female artist.

we do need to see more female top executives in the music industry. that's where it really counts regarding "women taking over the music industry"

nod

She needs to sit down already.

If they do run the industry, she is definitely not apart of that group.

They're the faces of the industry however they aren't many in the executive positions so therefore her argument is invalid.

No Madonna or Janet? the two biggest female artists who have made a far greater impact than anybody on that list? I cant believe she did not mention Janet. She got her big break debuting in her music video and being her backup dancer... wow.eek

Her comment is very "surface" because like most have said already, the head people running the industry behind the scenes, award associations, labels etc are all men.

This is the gospel truth! The executive branch of the music industry is still white and male.

Its a dying business model anyway, so even if it were true, it would be nothing to brag about.

I also thought that, but left it to mentioning janet considering she's worked with her and is more like her in choreography than madonna

Celebrating these women taking over the music industry is like celebrating Margaret Thatcher taking over the British government in the 80's.

Judging by the ridiculous amounts of "skinny jeans", leather skirts, kilts and extra smedium shirts i see, her observation is spot-on.

Clearly she forgot to mention Janet:

Hardly any of Madge's peers have respect for her other than Britney and GaGa before the 'born this way' crap.

Obviously, she's referring to contemporary radio, which I don't listen to. When I'm listening to adult R&B or Pop/Rock stations, I'm hard-pressed to find female artists getting spins. I was listening to a station over the weekend. They played Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eliclipse of The Heart". I almost wet my self because I hadn't heard that song on the radio in YEARS! I had the radio on for an hour and she was the ONLY female they played. The rest were dudes.

Is it just me... or all those years she was married to Marc Anthony you would have thought he would have taught her to sing?
