I love Cher, but will this really be a live performance? I have my doubts. I can see some heavy lip-syncing happening here.

I'll literally eat my hat if she sings the song live in its entirety.

I don't understand why she's choosing not to debut a new single? She streamed this song last fall but it's officially being released as a single next week? makes no sense. I'll still watch her do her thing though

so Cher returned last night ,
. , btw as of this post, Cher's song is #60 on the itunes hot 100 chart. Does anyone know if she now holds the record for the oldest living recording act to crack the top 100 on itunes? I'm trying to think of someone older who did it... [Edited 6/19/13 2:45am]

I was thinking about McCartney (72), he had a hit a couple years ago from that standards album.
Yoko Ono (80) has had some popular EDM tracks in the last 2 years, not sure if they made the charts though.

it's such a lackluster single

Wait what country do you live in? McCartney hasn't a hit in decades in the U.S.. Yoko is definetly up there here but only because of her remixes from the earlier 2000's. I'm pretty sure the newer ones haven't charted on the Hot 100. Bennet was about 83 or 84 when Body & Soul was released but it's not really fair considering it was Amy Winehouse's first posthumous single too.

I just remembered that Macca song "My Valentine" was a big deal for a week or two. I don;t pay attention to charts.
But I just got a press release today from Yoko's people talkig about her "chart-topping" single Hold On.
"From topping dance charts with her EDM hit “Hold Me” to creating artist installations/apps like #smilesfilm (which collects grins from around the world) to sharing amazing snaps on Instagram, Yoko Ono just keep innovating. Having just turned the big 8-0, Ono proves that music/tech is not a just a young person’s game – in fact, it’s one she wins hands down." - MTV O Music Awards

2001's Driving Rain debuted at # 26 and achieved gold. 2005's Chaos and Creation... debuted at # 6 and went gold. And finally, 2007's Memory Almost Full reached # 6 and went gold.

Those are albums though. Albums by older artists always do well. Doesn't mean they're popular though.

You didn't mention popularity. Nonetheless, albums & singles released by veteran artists fare worse than younger artists, and is therefore reflected in the charts, with a handful of exceptions, Rod Stewart being one.

I wouldn't say albums do. Black Sabbath is topping the albums chart right now. Younger people aren't buying albums any more, they either buy a few songs they like on itunes or pirate the whole album.
