How would you rate Paul McCartney as a singer? We all know he is a master songwriter, but what about his vocals? I always thought he kinda had an unremarkable voice myself. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I wouldn't. | |

I think Paul has a pleasant voice. It can sound pure and sweet or rough and rocked out. It's not a great voice, but it goes perfectly with his style of music.

Actually, although I'm not really a Beatles fan, Paul was by far the most soulful Beatle.

I thought lennon had the best voice of all of them, followed by Harrison "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

IMO Paul has a good voice but it isn't anything special. Either way he was my favorite songwriter in The Beatles (Lennon is my favorite writer solo career wise) Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

The most versatile voice in the Beatles.

This.
No other Beatle could have sung songs as diverse as Helter Skelter and My Love.
Check this lesser known track from 2008 and remember this is a 66 year old man singing . Paul also plays most instruments on this.

Best in the Beatles. | |

Long and Winding Road and Helter Skelter prove a serious ability to contrast style and range. He's no spring chicken - but in the studio can still bring it on the harder stuff.

He had a great rock n roll scream on him - his Long Tall Sally is pretty great.

I dislike his voice so much, Eleanor Rigby might even be a good song but by fuck I can't appreciate it because his voice is so bad it makes me nauseous.
I do however like the harder stuff like Get Back and Helter Skelter.

He was utterly dreadful at the Olympic Closing ceremony last year. Also pretty much anything that wheels him out to give us a half hour rendition of Hey fucking Jude. Even the most ardent McCartney apologists were yelling at hm to piss off at all the 2012 jubilations. The UK doe have other musicians. Plenty of them in fact. Plenty his own age too as Tom Jones was on the same bill and blew him out of the park at the Diamond Jubilee concert.

Lol, Prince Phillip doesn't think ToM Jones can sing. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Paul McCartney is my favorite Beatles singer at his best and gets a 6-7 at his best. At worst he's absolutely horrible and makes my ears bleed and gets a 0-1. The Olympics and Grammys were just

You mutherfuckers just don't appreciate the Beatles - their influence is so pandemic that it is lost on succeeding generations, and you like your singers hootin' and hollerin' and doing melisma calisthenics. I think Paul McCartney is a wonderful vocalist and I'd rank him as a 7/10.

Utterly superb singer. Although I like Lennon better overall, I can't fault Paul as a vocalist. One of the biggest vocal ranges of all singers in any style.
I totally used to underrate him, because he sounds so effortless. The things that he executes are amazing, even more so after I've covered some of his songs live (or attempted to).
Deceptively high full voice range.
Silky smooth full voice to falsetto transfer.
One again, amazing full voice range and power.
Killer overdrive on his vocal.
Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

I like how he pushes his voice to distortion on tracks like "Oh Darling", or adopts a crazy accent like "Rocky Racoon". I'd say he's a great singer, but I don't think metrics like vocal range and vibrato are great elements of singing, in fact those things can be downright cheesy and boring.
I'd say great singing involves projecting a unique mood and just sounding strong and interesting. Most trained singers don't sound interesting at all to me.

I like his voice. I prefer Lennon though.

Yes, I often point out to people who don't like him that as Why Don't We Do it In the Road ends and I Will begins it's the same person singing. I prefer John Lennon's singing, if only for the genuine quality and personality that always shone through, but Paul was definitely a good singer.

I love Paul's voice. At least when he was in his prime he was one of my favourites. There are a lot of technically great singers who don't do it for me. They don't seem to bring any emotion to a song. They really just sound like they're trying to get a song right in the studio. For me Paul brings some emotion to his songs. His voice also sounds clear on a lot of Beatle songs. But I prefer Lennon within the Beatles - only slightly though. [Edited 6/10/13 0:25am]
