While her sister Tamar gave birth to a baby boy on Thursday, Toni Braxton had her own exciting news to share with the world. After announcing that she was retiring from music, the R&B icon is back in the studio with Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds.

During the season finale of her WE tv show Braxton Family Values, singer revealed that she is working on a duets album with her longtime friend and collaborator.

“I think I’ve made the right decision to get back involved with songwriting and working with Kenny,” she said during the episode. “I can’t be afraid anymore. I have to live life. It’s OK to fail as long as you try, so I’m gonna try.” As recently as last month, she said that she was done with music. “I’m kinda still on the done with music side, but we’ll see,” she told Rap-Up TV. “I haven’t done any recording, nothing in the studio.”

She received encouragement from her famous friends including Babyface, Anita Baker, and Missy Elliott. “They’re kinda tryna push me to do something. But I love them for that and it makes me feel so much better ’cause I don’t feel so alone.” The album is due on Motown in September, according to Toni. “September 2013 @KennyEdmonds @Motown,” she tweeted.

The two have already shot promo photos for the project. “The whole perspective is guy and girl, Mars vs. Venus. Even if you’re in love, you’re in love for different reasons,” explained Babyface. Braxton added, “I think because Babyface and I have both gone through divorces, we can relate and we can collaborate together on this topic and make it so others who have gone through this situation can relate.”

Babyface executive produced Braxton’s first three albums for LaFace including Toni Braxton, Secrets, and The Heat.

Toni Braxton is an attention whore. She is not gonna retire from music or reality tv

She wouldn't be the first entertainer to reverse his/her decision about early retirement. I welcome the news that she's readying a new album with Face.

This is the smartest career move she has made in years.Babyface was truly the best producer she ever worked with.

saw Babyface yesterday at the capital jazz festival yesterday in maryland he sounds great. toni is coming to Baltimore in august so im gonna check her out too. the two of them definitely can have a successful project if they market it to fans over 35 years old with no guest rappers! 100,000 people were feeling the vibe yesterday

I wouldn't say that. She's hardly on the show. The show focuses on her sisters and thier drama more than Toni.

As for the music business, I really think she was so over it. Especially after seeing the clips they showed of her performing. She just didn't seem to be into it like she was earlier in her career. Maybe she hit a burn out phase and Face really helped her wise up (like we saw on the show).

Besides, Toni reuniting with Face could be good for both of their careers. The only other reunion that would be better is if Face and LA produce and write a track together for this project.

4 REAL! She did well with other producers, but she and Face have a chemistry that just WORKS.

On the show, Towanda (her sister) contacted Face and explained that Toni was saying she wanted to retire. That's when he contacted her and went to visit her.

Janet's career is in the doldrums without Jam and Lewis. Theirs was a team with the best chemistry.

See, I don't even watch that show but the same thing happens with non-famous musicians that "retire" a/k/a give up on pursuing music.

I guess the ONLY reason I missed this news about My Toni is because I haven't watched or DVR'ed a single episode of this Seasons "Braxton Values". This is AWESOME news. I Love listening to Toni &Face's voices as they blend together. This type of project should have been done a long time ago..Toni is young and can do so much more providing her battle with Lupus doesn't flare up too much. My Late Aunt battled with that disease and it kicked her butt. Lupus can be Ruthless to the body inside and out.

i dont think toni wanna outshine tamar b/c toni is a legend tamar just trying 2 get her foot in the door.its room at the top for both of em their style of what they offer is different tonis is classic stylish pop/r&b and tamar is rachet hood

I don't get that from her at all. That's one thing I have noticed from the show, they all respect Toni for paving the way for them to have jobs as well as have aspiring music careers.

Toni has worked with some of the best producers and writers in the business. She has had hits without working with Kenny, but she seems to be at a point where she wants to start a new beginning. I doubt she is trying to recpature her hey day, but she can definitely try to sustain a career and record new material.

I don't feel Toni will intentionally outshine Tamar this Fall. I will say this because it's the Elephant in the room. When Toni learned Tamar was gonna drop her BIGGEST & most PROMOTED Album she should have shelved her Album projects. Yes, working with Face again might be a 1 shot deal but as the Older Famous Sister she should not release any music in 2013 and let Tamar do her thang.

If you think about it, they could easily release albums this year. Tamar won't be able to promote her album properly until next Summer (or maybe Spring). She needs to heal and bond with her child. That is probably why they have kinda slowed down on pushing her singles. "Love and War" did great, but "The One" is not doing as well as I thought it would have.

As for Toni, if the album she is doing with Face is a complete duets project, that shouldn't interfere with Tamar's audience. Toni and Face are aiming at the Charlie Wilson crowd. Tamar claims she wants to sing for the 20 and 30-somethings.

You're missing the point. Tamar might be Married to one of the MOST successful Manager/Producers in music History but she has ZERO Industry cred. She's working her but off to become that Credible Solo artist she's been yearning for since Big Sis made it BIG.

If Tamar's attitude is like it is on the show, I can see why industry people were reluctant to push her in the past. For some reason, I think her marriage to Vince was a business decision. They act like they're in love, but for some reason, I think it's an arrangement.

When I first watched "Braxton Values" that was my first time seeing Tamar actually talk. It was obvious her crazy personality would make her the Star. I wondered if she was really like that. Someone told me that was all for show to get people to watch. They said she's nothing like that off camera(at least not as hyped/crunked) and she was on a BET reality show (Keisha cole or somebody)and was nothing like the person we see on her show.

I agree with you about her marriage to Vince. At first I thought it was unreal. But as times goes on they seem to care a great deal for each other. Maybe all those arguments they had were scripted? I havent seen any pictures of the baby boy they just had.
