Mariah Carey Tries to Inflate Sales of New Single

http://www.examiner.com/article/mariah-carey-beautiful-flatlines-on-charts-as-singer-lies-about-its-success

I wonder why more people don't call her out on this. Her entire career has been based on inflated sales claims.

Mariah Carey '#Beautiful' flatlines on charts as singer lies about its success

This morning, The Twittersphere is up in arms at Mariah Carey after she falsely tweeted that her latest single, '#Beautiful,' is number one in 30 countries. As of today, the song is struggling in almost every country it has been released and stalls on Billboards Hot 100 at number 20. This isn't the first time Mariah has desperately tried to inflate her numbers. Throughout this year, Team Mariah has constantly announced that Mariah is the biggest selling female artist in history with sales of over 200 million albums. The problem -- those 200 million albums cannot be verified.

Madonna has sold over 300 million albums and those sales have been verified. Just a couple years back, Team Mariah was claiming she sold over 160 million albums. Given that all her albums have bombed recently, there is no way she sold 40 million albums in just a couple years.

It has also been noted that Mariah's list of number one songs is also manipulated, especially since several of Mariah's number one songs weren't actually hits, they weredeeply discounted to 49 cents when other singles sold for $2.99. Mariah's career is shamefully based on inflated numbers and chart manipulation.

She's also trying to downplay the fact that she is being dismissed from American Idol. She makes it seem like she decided to leave the show to concentrate on a world tour. The truth is,the producers aren't gonna extend her contract.

i think i've seen maybe 10 minutes of ai in its entire run - about 9 years? - but i've been reading that the numbers are way, way down. i guess mariah said, 'you can't fire me, b/c i quit!'

i did see the video of this song on you tube. it's like, mimi, i know you're a beautiful woman, but you need to put it away at some point.

lol...yeah,in all of her videos, the only message seems to be "Look how beautiful I am" lol She looks great, but it's a shame that she is so one-dimensional.

the Examiner can be downright brutal lol

Mariah Carey lies about success of new single as she exits American Idol

Today, Billboard released their latest chart, which has Mariah Carey's latest single (well, really Miguel's single) "#Beautiful" stalling on the charts at number 20. It is doing better in the United States than it is in most other countries, where the song hasn't even charted.

Mariah's PR team today tweeted that Mariah is leaving American Idol to go on tour to celebrate the success of her single #Beautiful, which they claim has reached number one inthirty countries. The problem -- it hasn't even hit number one anywhere. Commenters on Billboard and Huffington Post are noting this is all a lie.

What many speculate is that Mariah, more than likely, wasn't asked back for American Idol. Her presence there has been a disaster and the show has lost millions of viewers. PR teams usually try to concentrate on the positive, but Mariah's PR team is acting pretty desperate in this case. We have reached out to Mariah's PR team about their latest factual error, but haven't heard anything back yet.

Various media outlets pretty much determined the fate of this past A.I. season when the panel was first announced and they were questioning whether or not America would be willing to watch a talent show with three black judges and alluding that someone black would probably win the season because of it.

I'm sure the producers of the show will make sure next season's panel will be more diverse to draw more "mainstream" viewers and they will bring the male rockers and country singers back front and center so I'm sure the ratings will skyrocket.

that 200 million worldwide is bogus sorry Mariah i love ya, but no way MC, you have not even come close to that worldwide, she had a period of time (when she toured overseas) that she was selling alot there, not the case last few albums except MIMI. She has not sold 200 million because she is not a HUGE force overseas, she rarely even tours there, Bon Jovi is close to 175-200 million, almost 75% of that is overseas becuase they can sell out a desert in Egypt or wherever worldwide. Sorry MC the PR team has go to go, stop inflating, just do some good music once again stop worrying about "beating" the BEatles in Number Ones, even if you do, its not going to matter, FOR TWO REASONS, one being her music didnt take over a time like theres did, and TWO they had 20 number ones in 6 years, she has been out 23 years now and still is at what 17? and 3 of those were covers.

Exactly. That's why I get tired of the Beatles comparisons from anyone. Not the same! And does Mariah still have so much to prove that chart position and sales still matter that much?

Exactly i laugh when people talk to me about BILLBOARD in this day and age, like that magazine holds any weight in these times? that magazine and what it was is not even relevant, the fact they count a song you maybe listened to 30 seconds of as a sale, or a fraction of a sale is a joke, people bitch that labels didnt get with the times, shit the consumers need to get with the times and realize that charts and numbers now are meanigless, not everything is counted, in fact alot of stuff isnt counted now, the next Prince cd is most likely gonna sell more on his own site and not even be tracked, so whats the point anymore of Billboard? it should have been the first thing to go.

People have been doing this for years and Mariah is not the first one.

So i don't understand why people are going crazy over this i mean it is just what MiMi and other artists do.

Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Rihanna have a few remixes to their songs that usually help boost the original single to number 1.

Besides at the end of the day it is just number and i will never understand peoples fascination with top 40 hits lol

They all lie. Movie studio's lie about box office draws. Bands lie about sellouts and chart positions. It's a hype industry. I can't even count the number of bands on twitter that claimed to be number 1 on an Amazon or Itunes chart. I easily see it happen 3 or 4 times a week from major acts, not just indies. Not sure why Mariah was singled out.

THIS

It reminds me of when Lady GaGa came out and they said her album had 4 number 1 hits(Only had 2) and that she was the first artist to do it from a debut album... forgetting about George Michael and Mariah lol

And there are dozens of people who tried to claim The Beatles had more than 20 number 1 hits and had the most top 10 hits yada yada.

Industry always has and always will be 50% hype.

I agree and disagree, there is always over praise on aritsts sales because honestly who the hell is gonna check it? i mean i heard that Depeche Mode sold 125 million worldwide, who can disprove that? or even prove it, certifications in countries vary in units, plus counting is done differently there. However i can see a little bit of what people are getting crazy over (i actually wouldnt say crazy since no one but the org is even talking about Mariah and this issue) but if you are saying number 1 in 30 countries and you arent even in those countries or on their charts that is quite different. This single is a total dud, its already a done deal, its most likely gonna push the album back till the fall unless another failed lead single is released.

Common guys, the song is doing mighty good for the 'diva' of yesteryear. Janet, Madonna and Celine could only dream of having a radio hit like that.

Although I recently read that all certifications are greatly over-exaggerated.

She's being criticized because her team is insisting that this song is number one in 30 different countries. That kind of stuff can easily be verified lol I can't see why they felt the need to tell such an obvious lie.

Either someone on her staff mis-informed her or she was hitting the pipe when she tweeted that. I've never heard of her being a drug addict so it can't be the latter. And, besides, she could have been talking about the number of youtube hits or some silly shit like that. Isn't that the way the success of a song is measured nowdays???

I thought the music industry counts pandora and you tube views of a song count towards chart positions. (This is to bolster sales of all artists).
