You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I used to hear this all the time growing up watching "I Love Lucy", and I didn't realize what "Babalú-Ayé "meant in West African and Cuban culture. In Orisha worship, he is seen as a Spirit, 'Father, Lord of the Earth', associated with disease and healing... Then I started hearing the name pop up in other songs...Like Paul Simon's song, "Rhythm Of The Saints", Ruben Blades's song "Obalue", and in the chant for Caldera's piece, "Sky Islands".....it was also the title of a track on drummer Steve's Smith's Vital Information album, Fiafiaga (Celebration)......

... [Edited 5/23/13 14:19pm] That's so cool to know! Desi Arnaz is so underrated. He was more than just the straight-man to Lucille Ball. He was an Ambassador of Latino culture during 1950's America, and pioneered many of the innovations we take for granted today when we watch sitcoms. Without Desi, there would be no Desilu Productions, and if I'm not mistaken, no Star Trek, among other things. Some people tell me I've got great legs...

I love the org because of this...I learn so much here. I remember my mother watching this when I was little. Always loved Desi. Thanks for this info... "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack
